  • $tarving Artists' $howcase Saturday

    Are you looking for the perfect painting or photograph to hang in your new home? Do you have a passion for homemade soaps, jewelry and candles?

    This Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. visit Williston’s Heritage Park where local artists will exhibit their work in the Williston Chamber of Commerce’s $tarving Artists’ $howcase.

    Artists from three counties will be on hand exhibiting and selling their work at starving artists’ prices – all below $100.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • May 21, Joshua Scott Allen, 33, Cedar Key, VOP.

    • May 24, David Ernest Paul Brigham, 34, Gainesville, out of county warrant. Bond $5,000.

    • May 27, Ronald Webster Cannon, 39, Chiefland, hit and run, DUI. Bond $10,000.

    • May 27, Edwin Echevarria Cardona, 55, Zephyrhills, DUI, fleeing/eluding, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, possession and/or use of drug equipment. Bond $20,000.

  • Bird enthusiasts, take note: This program is for you

    Start off your summer by joining us at the Williston Library (corner of E. Noble Ave. and SE 1st St.) on Saturday, June 2nd, at 2:00 p.m for an introduction to “Birds and Bird Photography,” hosted by the Friends of the Williston Library. The presenter will be John A. Middleton Jr.

  • Watermelon and biking on tap this weekend

    The 64th Annual Chiefland Watermelon Festival gets rolling June 2 at 8 a.m. and culminates with the beloved seed-spitting contest at 1 p.m. Most events take place at the Chiefland Trailhead Park at 23 SE Second Ave.

    The vendor booths open at 8 a.m. and the parade will be held at 11 a.m. The watermelon auction will follow at noon, along with the introduction of the 2018 Chiefland Watermelon Pageant Royalty, including Chiefland Watermelon Queen contestants Avianna Liuzzo, Laken Carter, Shelia Engel and Devan Hodge.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • May 16, Christopher Scott Allen, 42, Inglis, domestic battery by strangulation. Bond $75,000.

    • May 15, Joshua Benjamin Baldenegro, 28, Gainesville, aggravated assault, battery, two counts possession of a weapon or firearm by a convicted felon, criminal mischief. Bond $525,000.

  • Glitches add to the beauty

    Ken Schwiebert is a perfectionist. If you’re one of his dental patients, you know this. If you’ve held a piece of his woodwork in your hands, you’ve seen it. And if you’ve worked on the veterans’ memorial with him for four years, as I have, you’ve felt it.

    It was November 2014 when I agreed to help with a project that would simmer on the back burner for two full years before finally reaching the boiling point in early 2017.

    Artists Needed

    Exhibitors are needed for the Starving Artists Showcase, sponsored by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, to be held Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Williston’s Heritage Park.

    Artists in all media are invited to participate to showcase and sell their work. 

    Booth space is available for $15 per booth.

  • Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. Remember those who served.
  • Memorial dedication is Saturday

    Dreams can and do come true and this Saturday, the long-anticipated recurring dream of the Williston Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will become reality as the Veterans' Memorial will be dedicated.

    The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in the Heritage Park Pavilion and, weather permitting, will move south for the unveiling of the monument that honors the men and women of America's Armed Forces.
