    Matt Brooks provided an update on Levy County Commission business and shared some of his accomplishments as a county commissioner at the Dec. 20 Suwannee Valley Rotary Club meeting.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Dec. 20, Kyle Michael Bailey, 23, Lehigh Acres, trespassing, obstruction W/OV, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, possession and/or use of drug equipment, sex offender violation/failure to notify law enforcement of sex offender status. Bond $127,000.

    • Dec. 18, Mark Richard Boivin, 18, Chiefland, petit theft, VOP. Bond $1,000.

    • Dec. 17, Alfonza William Brown, 37, Williston, no DL, simple assault, battery. Bond $61,000.

    The Levy Board of County Commissioners took steps on Dec. 18 toward controlling the flow of solid waste in Levy County and regulating the collection service system.

    Levy County Solid Waste Department Administrative Director Rod Hastings presented ordinance 2018-009, which will allow the county to require all solid waste haulers to obtain a license.

    Democratic Party Meeting

    Levy County Democrats will be holding their second organizational meeting Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. in Bronson.

    The purpose of this meeting will be to nominate positions for the Levy County Democratic Executive Committee (D.E.C.) and discuss future plans. Precinct Captains, officers, caucus chairs and club presidents will be nominated.

    The meeting will be held in the home of Robbie Blake, 8250 N.E. 61st Place, Bronson, 32621.

  • Man sought in stabbing found

    A suspect in a stabbing at a home near Chiefland on Dec. 15 was later found in Palmetto on the same day of the attack.

    A search went out for Antonio Delossantos, 60, the morning of Dec. 15 when Levy County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported stabbing at 1850 NW Highway 27, where a family member of the victim made a 911 call.

    The victim was stabbed multiple times and was rushed to a local hospital.

  • CPR devices to aid in extended transports

    Levy County Director of Public Safety Mitch Harrell hopes to give patients in rural Levy County better care by equipping all county ambulances with mechanical CPR devices.

    The Levy County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved his request at the Dec. 18 meeting to release funds if the grant is awarded.

  • Welcome, Sister's Place

    The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed new restaurant Sister's Place to town last week with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Owned by Michelle Fortner, center with scissors, the restaurant is a "farm to table" enterprise, serving fresh, locally grown meats and produce. Sister's Place is located at 20 NE 3rd St., behind Maguire's Auto Repair.
