• Burglaries on the rise

    Levy County homeowners are being asked to use extra caution with their property in the wake of a recent rash of daytime burglaries.

    According to the Levy County Sheriff's Office, homes here and in adjacent counties are being entered forcibly and ransacked.

    The burglars are taking guns, jewelry and cash, as well as other valuables.

     Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat and the Williston City Council honored Students of the Month at Tuesday night’s meeting.

    Karley Boyer, daughter of Kennedy and Penny Boyer, was nominated by teachers Stephanie Hogie and Jenny Adkins at Joyce Bullock Elementary School.

  • Mayor, council honor students of the month

    Williston Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat and the city council honored October Students of the Month at the council meeting Tuesday night.

    Honored from Williston Central Christian Academy, and nominated by Rhonda Gauthier was Kendall Roberts. She is the daughter of Larry and Megan Roberts.

    Williston High School Student Government Association is gearing up for this year's homecoming game, set for Oct. 10.

    The theme for this year’s homecoming is “Let Us Entertain You.”

  • School board hopes to boost test scores

    With some bright spots in overall FCAT results, the school district's challenge will be how to spread that success.

    "There are schools that are performing well," said Patrick Wnek, assistant superintendent of curriculum, at Tuesday's Levy County School Board meeting. "Our goal is to find out what they are doing."

    "We know it can happen in all of our schools," he said, noting that some teachers are performing at a high level.

    Williston Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat and the city council honored May students of the month Tuesday night.

    Eighth grader Ryker Gauthier, a student at Williston Central Christian Academy, was nominated by Michele Winningham. He is the son of Leo and Rhonda Gauthier.
