    Williston Mayor Jerry Robinson and the city council honored December's Students of the Month at the meeting held Dec. 4.

    Melvin Walker, son of Shoshana Frazier, was nominated by Jennifer Moberg at Williston Middle High School.

    Moberg wrote, "Melvin is the most courteous, positive student I have the pleasure of teaching each year.

    "He comes in every day with a big smile and a day doesn't go by without him saying, 'Good morning, Mrs. Moberg. How are you today?'

  • Students of the Month honored

    Williston Mayor Jerry Robinson and the city council honored October Students of the Month at last week's meeting.

    Ava Fret, daughter of Jennifer Fret and a second grader at Joyce Bullock Elementary, was nominated by her teacher, Kaitlyn Bannon.

    In her nomination, Bannon wrote: "Ava was nominated for our class's student of the month because of her outstanding attitude and character during the first weeks of school.

    "She is already showing leadership traits by following the rules of our classroom and school.

    During the first week of summer teachers, staff and high school student volunteers came together for the Summer Bridge Program at Bronson Middle High School (BMHS). This program was put together to help prepare incoming sixth grade students for the transition into middle school.

  • Mackenzie Goode accepted into Phi Kappa Phi

    Mackenzie Goode of Williston was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Goode was initiated at University of Florida.

    Goode is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

    The School Board of Levy County and Superintendent Jeff Edison have joined a chorus of calls opposing the Florida legislature’s K-12 education budget proposal and a related bill widely seen as too favorable to charter schools at the expense of the state’s public school students.

  • School Board millage sees slight drop

    The School Board of Levy County unanimously adopted its final 2016-2017 millage and budget, setting the combined millage rate at 6.876, and the total budget at $77,264,131.00.

    The budget was revised up from the original advertised estimate by $1,503,385, largely due to $1,259,923 in additional anticipated costs for capital projects.
