• Adrienne Ecke

    Adrienne Ecke, 93, of Gainesville, died Jan. 6, 2008, at the Gainesville Health and Rehab Center after an extended illness.

    Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she lived in Bronson since 1982, coming from Hialeah. She was a quality control inspector. She belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church in Williston where she was a regular bingo player. She enjoyed playing bridge.

    She is survived by one daughter, Eileen (William) Westwood; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Ecke.

  • Rose Darling

    Rose Darling, 90, of Sebring, died Jan. 8, 2008, in Sebring.

    Born in Danbury, Conn., she lived in Williston for nine years. She previously lived in Crescent City as well as Newberry and Gainesville. She worked as a desk clerk for Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in Gainesville, and owned and operated the Palms Motel in Islamorada. She was a past member of the Sprite Club in New York, and enjoyed reading and doing needlework. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Williston.

  • Christine C. Clyatt

    Christine Cargle Clyatt, 91 of Williston died Jan. 1, 2008, at Williston Rehab.

    Born in Geneva County, Alabama, she was a resident of Levy County since 1946. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chiefland.

    She is survived by her sister-in-law, Montine Kuzma of Gainesville; nieces, Monte Marchant of Gainesville and Dee Ann Calhoun of Williamsburg, Va., great niece and caregiver Mary Hope of Archer, other nieces, Patsy Livermore, Gloria Tillis, Charlotte Yearty and nephew Carl Williams.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Humes Clyatt.

  • Muriel S. Burks

    Muriel Sandifer Burks, 90, of Gainesville, died Jan. 8, 2008, in Gainesville after an extended illness.

    Born in Ocala, she lived in the town of Tioga for seven years as well as Gainesville for 27 years. She was an office assistant working for the University of Florida. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Fishermen Sunday School class.

    She is survived by two sons, Jacob Burks and Donald Jouvenaz; two daughters, Joan Weber and Erin Garrison; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

    Dixie Winters, 69 of Williston, died Dec. 26, 2007, at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton.

    Born in Everett, Wash., she moved to Williston from Gainesville eight years ago. She retired as assistant activities director at Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

  • Linda Simon

    Linda Williams Simon, 52, died Jan. 1, 2008, at Shands @ UF in Gainesville.

    Born in Miami, she lived in Williston since 1989. She was a member of Outreach Church of Christ Written in Heaven, Dunnellon. She graduated from Miami Jackson High School.

  • Elaine G. Mitchell

    Elaine G. Mitchell, 79, of Morriston, died Dec. 22, 2007, at Nature Coast Regional Hospital.

    She moved to this area four years ago from Ellenton, where she showed horses for 18 years. She was co-owner and operator of Amik Run and Centaur Farms. She also enjoyed making uniforms for riders and horses as well.

    She is survived by her husband, Almeron Mitchell of Morriston; one God-daughter, Laurie L. Wolf; and one brother, Charles Griffin.

    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Ann Mitchell.

    Knauff Funeral Home of Williston is in charge of arrangements.

    Jacqueline "Jackie" Collins, 32 of Fanning Springs, died Dec. 29, 2007, as the result of a car accident.

    Born in Kansas she has been in this area for many years. She worked in the Parts Department of White Ford in Chiefland before leaving to work as a receptionist for Outboard Marine.

  • Ethel G. Tonge

    Ethel G. Tonge, 99, of Chiefland died in Gainesville on Dec. 23, 2007.

    Born in Parsons, West Va., she was a resident of this area for many years. She was a retired nurse's aide.

    She is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Hiers of Chiefland, Kitty (Shi) Smith of Melrose, Carolyn (Gary) Near of Washington; brother Lester Shoemaker of Blakely, Ga.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Swindle Tonge, grandson David Johnson, sister Virginia Dilly and brothers Glen Shoemaker and Troy Shoemaker.
