Camps begin June 5

Williston School of Dance (WSD) presented its 40th anniversary recital, "Cheers to 40 Years" at the University of Florida's P.K. Yonge Performing Arts Center Saturday, May 13.

Over 100 students, preschool to young adult, males and females, performed in 35 dances.

2017 senior soloists were Katie Hagan, Naomi Hurlston, Emily Lowrimore and Janna Thorrington.

Miss Thorrington has just auditioned for a dance scholarship at SFC. WSD Hip Hop teacher Kelsey Ramirez currently holds a full merit scholarship to dance at SFC. Modern 1 teacher and WHS alumna Shannah Parkin, who started at WSD and continues to train there, has just received an Arts in Medicine merit scholarship to UF School of Theatre and Dance.

The School of Dance will offer just three weeks of summer dance study, in specialized weeklong camps that are tailored to newcomers or to serious students:

This week, June 5-9, is Ballet and Modern Week. Irish Dance Week is June 12-16. Jazz/Tap/Hip Hop/Salsa Week is June 26-30.

Each camp is $110 for 15 hours of instruction. Prospective students may enroll for one camp or for multiple camp weeks. Children VPK-rising 5th grade attend camp from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday –Friday. Middle and high school dancers attend from 1-4 p.m.

Each camp week concludes with a fully costumed show that is free and open to the public.

This marks Artistic Director Sarah Ingley’s 15th summer at WSD. Ingley is a professional Irish dancer and Latin dancer. She is a UF graduate and holds the full American Ballet Theatre teaching certificate from NYC’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. WSD is owned and operated by the GFWC Williston Junior Woman’s Club.
