Just before 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 14 Marion County Sheriff’s Office got an emergency call about a shooting at 30 Pecan Run Drive, Ocala.

The investigation revealed James Burchett Jr., 24, of Williston came to the home looking for his wife. She, Sabrina Burchett, their 2 year-old son and an acquaintance who became the victim, Levi Anderson, were inside the home.

Witnesses say Burchett confronted Anderson with a 44-caliber revolver. Burchett fired the weapon, striking Anderson in the head. Burchett then took his 2 year-old son and drove off, according to the sheriff’s report.

Anderson ran to a nearby home and the people living there called 911. Anderson was rushed to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. His injuries are not life threatening.

Burchett was found by the Williston Police Department in Levy County. The 2 year-old was OK and returned to his mother. He agreed to be transported to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office main office for an interview with detectives.

Burchett told detectives he saw Sabrina and Levi embraced in the presence of the 2 year-old. Burchett confronted both Sabrina and Levi about their behavior. Seconds later the gun went off.

Detectives charged Burchett with occupied burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse (domestic) – due to the fact the gun was fired near the child.

There is no bond for Burchett.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 18.
