The Williston Red Devils didn’t appear to be on their game when they took on the Ft. White Indians Dec. 8 to defend their district championship.
The Red Devils held on and they pulled away late for a 64-44 win.
“We have a lot of work to do,” said head coach Steve Faulkner following the game. “I hope we were just rusty from our two week layoff,” Faulkner continued.
“We didn’t look very good tonight, but when you get a district win on the road, that’s good,” Faulkner said.
The Red Devils got off to a slow scoring start and held a 27-20 half time lead.
It was the outstanding play on both offense and defense of Tre Wilson that sparked an otherwise sluggish Red Devil team. Wilson was a monster on the boards, and led the team in scoring with 21 points. Wilson had a hugh second half.
James Monroe had 14 points, Jacques Edwards 10 points, and Deterion Ross had 7 points. The Red Devils had their share of problems at the free throw line as they missed more than they made as a team.
Several Red Devil players came off the bench to play well and Orvil Stone slipped in 6 quick points for the Red Devils.
Jordan Talley led the Indians with 17 points on the night.
The Red Devils are now 2-2 for the season and 1-0 in district play.
