The 14 Williston High School varsity softball team members will start the defense of their 2010 District and Regional Championships and hope to return to the State Final Four this season with a different result.
For the seven seniors and several returning juniors, this is the season to complete the long awaited journey to a state championship victory.
Back in 2006 when Lady Red Devil Roxxanne Rawls was pitching the Lady Devils to the championship game of the state finals, this group of present players were  making Williston Middle School history. This group of seniors and juniors were in the 7th and 8th grades and going 25-0 in Softball for a perfect season, scoring an amazing 235 runs while giving up just 15 runs. They won their fourth straight SMAC Championship in the process.
Last season in 2010 this group made it to the state final four as juniors and sophomores, so their mission this season 2011, is clear.
With Robert Patterson stepping down as head coach two seasons ago due to health reasons, and Billy Rodgers taking over last season before moving on to Bradford High School this season, the 2011 team is under a very capable and competent new head coach Carl Williams.
“With the senior leadership and team chemistry we are looking forward to defending our district title and hope to attain that elusive state title,” Williams said.  “We have a combination of both speed, power and mental toughness that we envision carrying us to new heights this year,” Williams concluded.
If these Lady Red Devils attain their dreams and win that elusive state championship, it would be the first for Williston High School since 1922 in any sport.
The Lady Devils begin their 2011 season Thursday Feb 3-4, in a tournament at Ft. White. Their first game will be against their former coach Billy Rodgers and his Lady Bradford Tornados. Game times for both days is 5 p.m.
Their first scheduled home game is Feb. 11, against Oak Hall. Game time is 6 p.m.
