The 2010-2011 Williston Lady Red Devil Basketball team kicked off its season Tuesday under new first year Varsity Coach Denise Lahusky.

Lahusky comes to Williston along with her husband Jon.

She teaches Earth Space Science at Williston High School after relocating from Utah.

Lahusky is moving up to take the helm of the Lady Red Devils Basketball program from a track and field coaching position in the State of Utah.

Knowing little about her team’s returning players, Lahusky said, "We are learning each other as practice begins, and the ladies know they will have to compete in practice every day to play."

Lahusky will also field a JV team for the first time in three years at Williston since she had a larger than usual turnout for her team try out sessions.

Her husband will coach the Junior Varsity team.

"We have some very good players on the varsity team, and we also have some issues that often accompany the learning process of players and new coach," Lahusky said.

"We had a large turn out of freshman wanting to play basketball, so we will be able to man both a varsity and junior varsity squad this season," Lahusky continued.

The 2010-2011 Varsity and JV rosters have not yet been completed according to Lahusky.

The Lady Red Devils are again in the district  which includes Santa Fe, Suwannee, Newberry, Fort White and Williston.
