Cowboy Bob At The Library

As part of the Black Stallion Literacy Program Cowboy Bob and his Gyspy pony, Max will be visiting the Levy County Public Library System. Cowboy Bob will read stories around the campfire. Then each child at the program will get to visit with his real Gyspy pony, Max. The events are free to youth of all ages and their families.

Cowboy Bob will be at the Williston Public Library 6 p.m. Feb. 22.


CEE Meeting

The upcoming Awake Florida rally, which coincides with the opening of the state legislature general session, will be the first topic of discussion when Citizens for an Engaged Electorate meets on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at Williston Community Center.

Also on the agenda are: proposed state bills on a variety of topics; implementation of Amendment 4; the status of Sabal Trail construction and protests; and information on Republican attempts to dismantle Social Security and Medicare. The meeting will wrap up with an overview of other issues and activities in our area as well as across the state and nation.

The Community Center is located at 50 N.W. Main St., on the north side of the Walgreen's parking lot.

The Levy County Schools Foundation STARS Gala will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at Williston Middle/High School.

The semiformal evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and mingling at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and program at 6 p.m. The event will benefit the nonprofit Foundation with funds to support its scholarship and grant programs for Levy County Schools.

Tickets for the event are $50 per person and are now on sale. Sponsorship opportunities will be available at $250, $500, $1,000 and $2,000 levels.

Concealed Weapon Class

Covenant Connection Marriage Ministry of Unity Temple International Fellowship in their fundraising efforts will have a Basic Pistol Class through the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Saturday, Feb. 25. The cost of the class is $65.

Each participant must bring picture ID. You can also bring your gun, ear and eye protection and 25 rounds of ammunition if you have it.

The class will begin promptly at 8 a.m. at the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Classroom, located at 9150 NE 80th Ave. Bronson, FL 32621.

Chamber Celebrates Mardi Gras

Get ready when Mardi Gras comes to Williston Saturday, Feb. 25 when the Williston Chamber of Commerce hosts its Installation Banquet at 6 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church.

A New Orleans-style meal with decor, music and fun are on the agenda.

Chamber members will receive invitations soon. The general public is also encouraged to attend to learn more about the chamber. Tickets are $25 each or a table of six for $200.

FOWL Book Sale

Friends of the Williston Library will hold a spring book sale from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4 in the building behind the library at 10 SE 1st St.

Football Booster Cake Auction

The Williston Football Boosters will host its first Cake Auction Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the WMHS cafeteria.

Proceeds will be used for new gear and equipment.

Wizard of Oz Debuts

The Chief Theatre will debut The Wizard of Oz March 3. The show will run each weekend through March 19 with matinees on March 11 and March 18.

Tickets are $10 for students, seniors, the military and first responders; $12 for adults.

Art At The Depot

The Archer Historical Society is accepting applications for vendors, artists and craftspeople of all kinds who would like to display and sell their art, homemade handicrafts, home businesses and food of all kinds March 11 from 10-4.

Civil War Reenactment

The 20th anniversary Nature Coast Civil War Reenactment will be held March 10-12 at Kirby Family Farm in Williston.

Friday, March 10 is Living History Day and it is open to the public from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The entry fee is $5 per person and includes a ride on a Civil War era train. Those attending will also have the option to purchase a ticket to the Saturday or Sunday battle for the half price cost of an additional $5.

A reenactment battle is held Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m.. The gate opens at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $10 per person and includes a ride on a Civil War era train.
