AARP Driving Class

An AARP Driver Safety Class for Seniors will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 213 West Noble Ave., Williston, Thursday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

 The objectives of the course include: understanding the effects of aging on driving, learning defensive driving strategies aimed at reducing crash risks, updating knowledge of the rules of the road in Florida, and increasing confidence and maintaining independence. There are no tests.

 A discount on automobile insurance policies for three years is available to seniors aged 55 and over on completion of the course. 

 Attendees are requested to please bring a sack lunch.

CEE Meeting

Discussion on upcoming actions for restoring the U.S. Postal Service will be the first topic of discussion when Citizens for an Engaged Electorate meets Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at Williston Community Center. 

Also on the agenda is information on how to campaign for candidates or ballot initiatives prior to the Nov. 8 election; updates on national issues supported by CEE; and discussion on how CEE can help Ministerial Faith Alliance move forward. Finally, there will be a roundup on activities by other groups in our area.

The Community Center is located at 50 N.W. Main St., on the north side of the Walgreen’s parking lot.

School Fall Carnival

JBE and WES are teaming up to host a Fall Carnival Friday, Oct. 21 from 5-7 p.m. at the high school football field and the community is invited to attend. 

There will be more than 30 booths and activities, a blow up obstacle course, sno cones, pizza and chicken and rice. 

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the front office of either school for five for $1. They will be four for $1 at the gate. All proceeds go directly back to the teachers for use in their classrooms.

Bake Sale/Membership Drive

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 236 in Bronson will hold a bake sale and membership drive Saturday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m until noon.

The post is located at 9550 Hwy. 27A, Bronson.

Fall on the Farm

The 10th Annual Fall on the Farm, a fundraiser to benefit Haven Hospice, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Rocky Hammock Preserve – the Historical Drummond Farm, located at 311 NE 9th St., Chiefland.

There will be dinner, drinks, live music and a silent auction.

FOWL Program

Friends of the Williston Library will feature Heidi Schwiebert Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the library, located at the corner of East Noble Avenue and SE 1st Street.

Schwiebert will speak on Williston's local attractions, Two Hawk Hammock, Devil's Den and Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens.

Cattlemen Meeting

The Levy County Cattlemen and Landowners Association will have its Fall Membership Meeting Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Whitehurst Lodge, located at 9820 SW CR 346, Archer.

Bronson Trunk or Treat

The town of Bronson will host Trunk or Treat Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at James H. Cobb Park.

Children 12 and under are invited to dress up and travel the route of vendors to collect candy. Older children may enjoy the Haunted House. 

Food and drinks will be sold.

Foxx Fall Festival 

Williston Horseman's Association will host the Foxx Fall Festival Oct. 30 at Horseman's Park.

There will be costume contests for people, dogs and horses, in addition to a silent auction.

Proceeds will go to Justin Foxx, who suffers from traumatic brain injury following an automobile accident.

Costume Contest

The GFWC Williston Woman's Club will host a Halloween Costume Contest and bake sale, Monday, Oct. 31 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Williston's Heritage Park, located on North Main Street.

All age groups are welcomed and prizes will be given to each age group: infant, elementary, middle school, high school and adult.

Costume judging will begin at 7 p.m. and trick or treat goodie bags will be distributed to those participating.

Water and assorted baked goods will be sold.

Hospice Will Honor Veterans

Haven Hospice of the Tri Counties is inviting community veterans to a Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 4, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Haven Hospice Community Building at 311 N.E. 9th St., Chiefland.

Veterans Day Parade

 

The town of Bronson will host the annual Levy County Veterans Day Parade Friday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Bronson Post Office.

A ceremony will take place after the parade at the James H. Cobb Park.

Williston Veterans Day Ceremony

The city of Williston will honor veterans Friday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m at the pavilion in Heritage Park. In addition to the JROTC color guard and patriotic music, a special speaker will be on hand to salute all branches of the military.

Beauty's Haven Fundraiser

Beauty's Haven will hold a tack/yard sale Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Dixie's Antiques, Noble Avenue, Williston.

The organization is asking for donations of new or gently used items for the sale. Tax receipts are available upon request.
