FOWL Book Sale

The Friends of the Williston Library will hold a book sale Saturday, May 11 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at SE 1st Street and Noble Avenue.

This will be the last sale until September and includes a large selection of children's book.

AARP/Disaster Preparedness

Salvation Army Maj. Dwayne Durham will give a Power Point presentation on Disaster Preparedness at the AARP Chapter 912 meeting Monday, May 13, in the Community Center at Williston City Hall, 50 NW Main St.

This is a timely subject as hurricane season begins in June. Anyone interested is welcome to attend for coffee and socializing at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will start promptly at 10 a.m.

Evening of Excellence

The annual Levy County Schools Evening of Excellence will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 13 at Chiefland Elementary School.

City Hall/Pioneer Open House

On June 2, the city of Williston will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its incorporation as a city (it was incorporated as a town in 1897) and this year marks the 140th anniversary of the Williston Pioneer, founded in 1897 as the Levy County Times.

To commemorate these milestone anniversaries, the city and the Pioneer will host a birthday party Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Additionally City Hall will be open for touring.

In addition to staff-led tours throughout the new building, the City Council Chambers will house snippets of Williston's history, along with archival newspapers, for guests to review.

Starving Artists Showcase

Exhibitors are needed for the Starving Artists Showcase, sponsored by the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, to be held Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Williston’s Heritage Park.

Artists in all media are invited to participate to showcase and sell their work.

Booth space is available for $15 per booth.

Fitness Boot Camp

Men and women are invited to attend Dr. J’s Boot Camp, a fitness event to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, June 8, at the Ornan Masonic Lodge in Williston. No experience is needed. The workout takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. and will include fitness tips, footwork drills, optional pad work, combination drills and mental strength building exercises. No contact – it’s just for fun. The event is $10 per person, with 100 percent of the fee going to veterans. Bring water, a yoga mat, boxing glove (optional) and a big smile. Registration is at 1 p.m. The drill instructor is Dr. Jerry Heines. The Lodge is located at 250 NE 6th Blvd (SR 121). For questions, contact via Facebook @Drjbootcamp.

AL Yard Sale

American Legion Post 236, 9550 NE A27, Bronson, will host a community yard sale Saturday, June 8 from 8 a.m. -noon. Vendor space is available for $10.

Peanut Festival Applications

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting vendor applications for the 31st Annual Central Florida Peanut Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 in Williston's Heritage Park.

Vendors this year will choose their own spaces, so early application is suggested.

Senior Activities

Oasis Community Solutions offers two weekly programs for everyone age 55 and over and caregivers of any age. Crafts class takes place every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Every Thursday is Senior Social, from 10 a.m. to noon. Programs are offered at Fountain of Life Church, 623 E. Noble Ave. in Williston. Weekly attendance is not required; neither is church affiliation. Individuals are encouraged to drop in as their schedules allow. There is no charge to participate though donations are welcome.
