FFA team invited to Tallahassee

Williston Senior FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team members were recently invited to do a demonstration for the Department of Education to celebrate the kick off of Career and Technical Education Month.

On Feb. 5, team members Tyler Brooks, Arielle Claude, Kendral Claude, Victoria Sandlin, and Ashton Bloom traveled to Tallahassee along with instructor Mr. Robert Philpot, student intern Amie Imler, School Board Chairman Mr. Frank Etheridge, and CTE coordinator Carol Jones. The students arrived at the Ralph Turlington Building and joined the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) state officers.

The festivities began with a welcome and introduction of the students and guest by the Chancellor for Workforce Education Lucy Hadi. The Commissioner of Education, Eric Smith, was on hand to read a Proclamation by Governor Charlie Crist declaring February Career and Technical Education Month.

The Williston Senior FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team did a parliamentary procedure demonstration and impressed the members of the Department of Education gathered in the lobby of the Turlington building.

The team won first place in the district Parliamentary Procedure contest in January and will now compete for the state title at the State FFA convention in June. Following the FFA demonstration the HOSA state officers did a CPR demonstration.

The Williston FFA students were honored by the request from the Department of Education and enjoyed meeting and talking to Chancellor Hadi and Commissioner Smith.
