The public is invited to attend the formal dedication of the Johnny T. Henry Celebration Park on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m.

The park, at Northwest First Avenue and Northwest Fourth Street, contains facilities for everyone, from toddlers, who love the brightly colored gym equipment, to adults, who take advantage of shuffleboard and volleyball courts and the walking trail. It has become a popular gathering place for many people in the community.

Johnny T. Henry, to whom the park is dedicated, was the beloved director of the Williston High School and Middle School bands. His untimely death more than two years ago shocked and saddened the community. Henry taught music in Williston for nearly 30 years and inspired his students to excellence; the "Small Town, Big Sound" band and the ensembles and soloists within it consistently received the highest ratings in state competitions.

The band is now under the direction of Alvin Johnson, Jr., a 1999 WHS graduate who seeks to continue Johnny Henry's tradition of excellence. The band will be an integral part of the dedication ceremony. Many members of Henry's family are expected to attend and his son Travis will speak for the family.

Those who remember Johnny Henry with affection and respect are encouraged to join this commemoration of his contributions to Williston.
