  • Spring football under way

    The Williston Red Devils are deep into their spring football practice.

    They have been working hard for the last couple of weeks under the watchful eyes of Coach Jamie Baker and his coaching staff. This past Tuesday evening saw the Red Devil players going through intense training and drills.

    The weather was hot and muggy but the instruction and effort were both exceptional. The Red Devils will continue with spring practice every evening until their spring game at Keystone Heights on May 27.

  • Regional loss was a...

    The regional loss by the Williston baseball team was a disappointment.

    Keystone Heights, led by a three-run homer by Colton Crews, defeated Williston, 12-11, Friday night in the Class 3A, Region 2 semifinal, ending the Devils' season.

    All 12 Indians' runs were unearned, including the home run, which came after two out in an inning that had been prolonged by an error.

  • Heather Porter signs with CFCC

    Heather Porter knows what the next two years of her life will bring.

    The Williston senior signed a softball scholarship with Central Florida Community College yesterday (Wednesday) at the WHS media center.

    CFCC coach Kerri Ryskamp said she plans to use Porter as either an infielder or outfielder. "She can play anywhere," said the young coach who will be entering her second season next year, as she also praised the WHS senior's hitting.

  • Devils win regional opener

    Williston played its comeback role to the hilt Tuesday, coming from behind twice, then whipping Union County, 13-5, in the Class 3A regional quarterfinal at Williston.

    The Red Devils will play Keystone Heights, a 10-9 winner over P.K. Yonge, at home this Friday.

    FORT WHITE - Williston's never-say-die baseball team had another big comeback win last Thursday, taking the district title with a 10-5 victory over P.K. Yonge.

  • Girls place fifth in Kissimmee

    KISSIMMEE - The Williston softball team finished with a 2-1 record in the Kissimmee Klassic tournament last week, good enough for fifth place in the 16-team White Division of the 48-team event.

    The Lady Devils won the first game over Tallahassee Chiles, 12-1, fell to Mount Dora Bible, 11-5, and knocked off Satellite, 6-4. The Devils were scheduled to play Bradford for fifth place but the game was rained out. However, Williston won the coin toss for the spot in the bracket.

  • Baseball team reaches Thursday...

    The Williston Red Devils defeated Lake Weir, 11-10, Wednesday night to reach the finals of the Red Devil Challenge.

    Williston will play Dunnellon tonight at 7. The Tigers swept through their half of the bracket unbeaten, as did Williston.

    In the tournament, the Red Devils won their first two games, knocking off P.K. Yonge, 8-7, and beating Gainesville, 17-14.

  • Middle school boys win

    The Williston Middle School Red Devil baseball team capped off its outstanding season with a 5-1 win over Bradford County in the championship game of the Suwannee Middle School Athletic Conference (SMSAC) Tournament, which was held in Lake Butler last Thursday night.

  • Girls top Santa Fe

    The Williston Lady Red Devils celebrated Senior Night by defeating Santa Fe High School 7-3 Tuesday night. Williston scored twice in the first inning and led the rest of the way, never letting a good Santa Fe team back into the game. On the night reserved for seniors Williston freshmen Crissy Rawls and Tori Stamper came up big. Rawls delivered four hits and scored twice while Stamper pitched a complete game for the Lady Red Devils. Dayna Hunn also had a good night at the plate, knocking in two runs on a double and triple.

  • WHS girls blank Newberry

    A much-needed district victory came along rather easily last week for the Williston softball team, which crunched Newberry, 10-0, in six innings at home.

    With a first-round bye in the district tournament likely, the girls needed this win to assure themselves of one less game in their quest for a district championship.
