The baseball game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, was upstaged by the February breast cancer awareness recognition ceremony.

  • Comeback falls short for girls...

LAKE BUTLER -- It was the most exciting fourth quarter of basketball I have watched any Williston Lady Red Devil basketball team play in five seasons. This game had everything any Red Devil fan could have asked for and more.

Union County (21-4) escaped with the win 51-50 and ended the Red Devils season simply because they made free throws and the Red Devils came up short at the foul line, especially in the fourth quarter where they hit just 4-of-13 free throws.

  • Softball team rallies to win...

CHIEFLAND -- Trailing Chiefland 4-2 going into the sixth inning, the Williston Lady Red Devils found their hitting groove and exploded for four runs to beat the Indians 6-4, before a large crowd in Chiefland on Tuesday.

  • First time in school history,...

CHIEFLAND -- Williston boys’ basketball beat P.K. Yonge 74-67 in overtime to capture their second consecutive district championship. As in the game the night before against Chiefland, a balanced attack helped the Red Devils overcome a game-long assault by Blue Wave leaders Josh Snodgrass and Autis Gibson. Ultimately, the Wave had no answer to huge play by Williston’s sophomore big man James Hunt, who simply dominated the paint.

  • Brandon Scott signs with St....

Brandon Scott receives applause from the crowd gathered at the Williston High School Media Center Thursday morning after he signed a baseball scholarship with St. Johns River Community College in Palatka. From the left are SJRCC assistant coach Donnie Whitehead; SJRCC head coach Ross Jones; Scott; Wanda Deanette Dallas, his mother; and Jim Smith, WHS baseball coach. Jones, a former pitching coach at the University of Florida, said he plans to use Scott as an outfielder, but also may give him a chance to show what he can do as a pitcher.
