  • Girls pull off upset on Senior...

Last Thursday night at the Williston gym there was only one senior on the Red Devils varsity basketball team. Kim Dobbins had her single player ceremony and was joined by her parents, Rick and Deanna Dobbins, and Head Coach Jason Odom at center court for her senior night celebration.

The Red Devils then took the court to face the Meadowbrook Lady Mustangs who brought with them an 18-1 season record.

The Red Devils were first to score in a cold shooting first quarter and led the game the entire way for a 46-34 win.

This is a three-man scramble, $45 per person or $135 per team, which includes lunch. Hole sponsorships are available for $75. Advance team registration and a hole sponsorship is available for $200.

  • Final football districts...

The Florida High School Athletic Association announced its final version of the football districts for the next two years on Friday, and while Williston’s district underwent only one change, Chiefland finds itself playing far fewer district games.

The Williston Red Devils will compete in Class 2B, District 4. Other teams in the district include Keystone Heights, Mount Dora, Newberry, Trinity Catholic, Umatilla and The Villages.

Gone from the preliminary list is Interlachen, which was transferred to a much bigger district with more schools to its north.

  • Girls get first-round bye

The Williston Lady Red Devil basketball team completed its district schedule Tuesday night, Jan. 20, as they hosted the Chiefland Lady Indians.

The Red Devils ended their district play for the season with a 63-41 win over the Lady Indians.

“We end our district play at 8-2 for the season,” said Head Coach Jason Odom. “We dropped both games to PK and we have a lot of work to get ready for the playoffs.”

  • Four from Williston named all-...

Four Williston High School football players have been mentioned on the Class 3A All-State list announced Wednesday.

Travis Evans was named to the first team, but with an unusual designation as he was listed as a utility player on defense.

Damon Germany was listed as a second team offensive lineman.

Jordan White was posted as a third team defensive lineman.

Deonte Welch was listed as a third team defensive utility player.

  • Final football districts...

Remember that final version of district football assignments that came out from the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Now there’s a “final” final version.

Only one school changed that affected Levy County, but it affected both district contenders Williston and Chiefland.

The Villages, previously listed as the smallest school in Class 2B and denied permission to move down, evidently got the FHSAA to change its mind.

  • Williston boys top Fort White,...

The Williston boys have clinched a bye in the district basketball tournament and still could take first place with the best overall record.

The Red Devils clinched the bye with a 71-30 win over Fort White last Friday, the second time this season the team has beaten the Indians by 40 or more points.

Jacques Edwards led the scoring with 15 points, Deonte Welch had 12, Tony James had 11 with nine rebounds and James Hunt scored nine on a 4-for-5 shooting night. Isaac Floyd had eight and Paul King scored 7.

  • Williston gets new district foes

When next football season rolls around, people will see a lot of unfamiliar opponents when district competition starts.

Williston has been placed in Class 2B, District 4, and there doesn’t appear to be anywhere for the Red Devils to go. Four years ago they appealed and moved up a class, but this time rivals such as North Marion are two classes up.

The seven opponents for Williston are Interlachen, Keystone Heights, Mount Dora, Newberry, Trinity Catholic, The Villages and Umatilla.

  • Comeback falls short against P.K...

GAINESVILLE — The first half was just a little too long for the Williston boys basketball team Tuesday night. As a result, the lead built by the home team more than offset a Devil comeback attempt.

Playing at district and regional rival P.K. Yonge, the Red Devils looked brilliant on defense until about the three-minute mark of the second quarter, when the Blue Wave went on a surge that helped carry them to a 57-48 win over Williston.
