  • Red Devils are in Rural Class 1A

     

        The FHSAA has accepted the Williston Red Devils into the Rural Class 1A, District 7 in all sports beginning with the upcoming football season in 2013.

        That's right, football, basketball both boys and girls, baseball, softball and volleyball and soccer. 

          The Red Devils will be in the 1A District 7 line up in all sports. They were placed in the southern district with Chiefland, Newberry, Union County and Dixie County.

  • High winds make shaky fishing

    High winds and rough seas have made it very difficult for off shore anglers over the past weeks.  While some of the more ambitious anglers may have gone out most have chosen to stay in shore or not go at all.

    In shore fishing has still shown results for trout, redfish and sheepshead. With water temperatures in the fifties you may find the trout and reds moving into the rivers and channels feeding into the gulf. Deep cuts and points where two rivers or creeks meet are a good starting point to find trout and oyster laid bottoms and beds are best for redfish.

  • Red Devils: A tale of two teams

    On Dec. 26, the Hitchcock Challenge Tournament began, and the Williston Red Devils were matched against 7A East Ridge from Clermont Florida.

    Perhaps this was because the Red Devils were a late entry into the Challenge, or perhaps they just were placed into the vacant slot left open by a team that pulled out of the tournament.

  • Cold means crappie

    Colder waters not only mean great fishing for inshore and offshore anglers, fresh water fans are not left in the cold with nothing to do. 

    Cold this time of the year for many avid anglers only means one thing; speck fishing. Depending on where you are from or who your fishing mentor was, you may refer to speckled perch or just speck as black crappie. It’s tomato or tomato, it really doesn’t matter we’re talking about the same fish.

  • Red Devils fall to 3-2 in...

    It was five quick 3-point baskets by the Santa Fe Raiders on Friday night Dec.21, that put the Red Devils in an early hole that they just could not climb out of.

    Santa Fe dropped in five first quarter 3-point baskets to hold onto an early 19-16 lead as the first quarter of the District game came to an end.

    In the second quarter, the 3-point basket failed to fall for the Raiders, as David Heinkel and Damien Strange found the range for the Red Devils as they helped to pull the Red Devils to within one point of the Raiders at half time, 27-26.

    It was a normal outing with his grandfather, John, when Dalton McGowan went exploring in the woods just northeast of Williston two weeks ago. 

    Dalton had gone to the woods many times in his 14 years but this venture will forever be stuck in his mind and surely included in tales told for years to come.

     Wilson wills Red Devils to district win

    It was a night that Red Devil fans were treated to big time Red Devil Basketball. The Williston varsity team hosted district foe, the Bradford Tornadoes, led by their 6’ 10” 250 pound center Justin McBride.

    The Red Devils got off to a cold shooting night as they missed five easy lay ups in the first quarter alone as the Tornadoes skirted out to a 17-12 lead as quarter one ended.

  • Red Devils suffer district loss

    On Tuesday night Dec. 4, the Williston Red Devils hosted the Fort White Indians. The Red Devils started off slow and played catch up basketball through out the game as they were being whistled for fouls on defense and creating turnovers on offense.
