    The Lady Red Devils hosted their rivals, Chiefland, last week and gave them a great match as both teams played extremely hard. Williston wasn’t able to come on top in this one but the games were competitive and close the whole way. The Lady Red Devils showed incredible resolve -- fighting their way back time and time again.

    Williston was finally able to get its first win of the season last week as they took on Wildwood High School at home. The stands at Booster Stadium were buzzing with energy as the Red Devils put up touchdown after touchdown en route to a 63-12 victory.

    The Red Devils traveled to take on Dixie County School last Friday, in interim head coach, Scott Hall’s first game on the sidelines for Williston. The game didn’t go as planned as Williston lost 37-7, but the Red Devils showed admirable determination and spirit as the game progressed to its conclusion.

    The Lady Red Devils were on the road last Thursday as they traveled to take on the Chiefland Indians. Williston put together three competitive games but were unable to take home a victory against their rivals.

    The opening match started out sluggishly for Williston as they trailed 16-5 early in the game, but they would soon get their legs under them and play up to their potential.

    Williston Middle School football player Jonathan Davis had four TDs (45 yard fumble return, 43, 49, and 78 yard runs) and  Jeremiah James added two TDs (50, 44 yards) to jump ahead to a 48-18 lead  before P.K. Yonge scored a pair of touchdowns against reserves to bring the score to 48-34.

    The Red Devils opened up their 2014-2015 season last Friday night as they were defeated 14-7 in a tight game against the Central High School Bears. The game consisted of just one half of football with no live special teams but was still a spirited contest nonetheless.

    If Williston Head Football Coach Cliff Lohrey has any apprehension, fear or dread about the 2014 season, he’s not letting it show.

    In his first year as the Red Devils’ gridiron leader, Lohrey is all smiles heading into tomorrow night’s season opener against P.K. Yonge on the opponents’ home field.

  • Scallop season starts this...

    Get your bay scallop bags and shucking tools ready. The recreational bay scallop season opens in some Gulf of Mexico state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles) starting June 28, three days earlier than the season was slated to start. The portion of Gulf state waters is from the Pasco-Hernando county line north and west to the west bank of the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County.

    The season will remain open through Sept. 24, with the first day of the closure on Sept. 25.

  • Soccer camp starts Monday

     

     Soccer Shots of North Central Florida will host a camp at the Williston Elementary School bus loop from 6:00-7:30 Monday-Friday starting on June 23. 

    Soccer Shots is a national franchise which has recently started up in Alachua, Marion, Citrus and Levy counties.
