  • Lady Red Devils sweep season...

It all started with the Lady Red Devil JV team making one great play after another as they worked quickly in their match with the Bradford JV Lady Tornadoes.
The JV Red Devils took their match in two straight games 25-12 and 25-15 Sept. 1 at the Williston gym.
Next up was the 1-1 Lady Devil Varsity team in their opening district match for the young season.
In game one the Lady Devils were led by Morgan Vanasco, Haley Beckham, Rea Samuels, and Kaitlyn Bannon's outstanding court play.

  • Defense shines but Red Devils...

Take away six first half fumbles, four of which turned the ball over on substantial drives and the half time score would have certainly been a different story for the Red Devils season opener against PK Yonge last Friday night.
The Williston Red Devils were having their way with the much bigger Blue Wave players.
The Red Devils were moving the football down the field with Brandon Preston and David Heinkel breaking off big runs in the first quarter.

  • Lady Tigers sweep Lady Red...

It started off with the Junior Varsity Lady Tigers from Union County taking two straight exciting games from the Lady Red Devil Junior Varsity, 25-23 and 26-24 to win their match.
But the teams from Union County were not finished yet.
The Varsity Ladies were opening their regular season play this past Monday night  at the Williston gym.
The Lady Red Devils jumped out to big early leads in the first two games only to have the determined Lady Tigers make rapid come- from-behind-wins to take an early 2 game to 0 lead in the match.

  • Chiefland claims season opening...

Chiefland’s Lady Indians came out on top when the four Levy County ladies’ volleyball teams met last Thursday in the season kickoff.
The winner was determined in a round robin as the winner was determined from the best of three games.
The Lady Indians were pitted against the Williston Lady Red Devils and the Cedar Key Lady Sharks faced the Bronson Lady Eagles.
The Lady Red Devils started strong in game one. Haley Beckham spread five kill shots and Chelsea Dola played a strong game at the net as the Lady Red Devils took game one 25-16.

  • Scott Hall named baseball coach

Longtime Levy County resident Scott Hall has been named to take over the Williston Red Devil Baseball program this spring. Hall, who is a Williston assistant football coach, is not new to Levy County High School sports.
Hall has coaching experience at the high school level as a former Chiefland High School baseball coach, and also as an assistant coach at Southwest Oklahoma State University, where he also played college baseball.

  • Red Devils drop Fall Classic

Some football fans call it fumbilitis, and some call it putting the rock on the carpet. In real terms, it is simply a turnover.
Last Friday, both the Williston Red Devils and the Fernandina Beach Pirates started the game unable to hold on to the football.
The Pirates took the opening kick off and managed just three plays before the Red Devil defense came up with a fumble recovery.

In the past month, Jiwan James’ stock has soared as a minor league baseball prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization.
The Williston native even had the waitress at Appleby’s recognize him as “The Jiwan James” on a recent trip to the chain-restaurant in Clearwater, where he’s been swinging a smoking-hot bat for the Threshers, an Advanced A team.
“Her boyfriend was an autograph seeker, though, so that was kinda bad,” James said.

Bronson Speedway in Florida gets a new lease on life Saturday when the track opens for the 2011 racing season after sitting dormant for more than a year.
In action on opening night will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman cars, INEX Legend Cars, Pure Stocks and Hornets. These classes will run almost every week at the speedway and the five divisions will be the core of racing at Bronson.

  • James Swings Hot Bat

Williston alum Jiwan James has been on a tear of late for the Clearwater Threshers, a Class A Advanced minor league baseball team in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization.
James had a pair of singles and drove in a run in a 5-2 loss at Port St. Lucie (New York Mets) on Sunday. In the past 10 games, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound centerfielder is batting just under .500. He’s only struck out four times in 31 plate appearances in that span.
