    Williston Varsity Volleyball took to the courts last Saturday hosting the Preseason Classic Tournament at the WHS gym.

    Participating in the tournament were Williston, Newberry, Chiefland and Dixie County, all of which are district rivals.

    The Devils preseason opener started and finished with a bang as the Red Devils defeated the Central High School Bears 25-6 last Friday night. The Devils’ defense showed their strength on the Bears’ opening drive forcing and recovering a fumble on the second play of the game.

  • Four earn post season honors

    Four members of the Williston High School softball team recently earned postseason accolades for their outstanding play this season.
    Shortstop Summer Damiano was named to the Gainesville Sun’s First Team Big School Division. Damiano, a sophomore, hit .537 for the season with 14 RBIs and finished in the top five batting  averages in the area.

  • Gulf waters are lively

    Anglers have been doing very well both inshore and offshore over the past few weeks. The afternoon thunder storms have forced many trips to be limited to half day outings but the fish are there. Red and gag grouper are being caught in as little as 28 feet depths.
    Capt. John Blouse reported doing very well around 42-44 feet, catching on one outing 15 keepers and not even reaching 50 feet in depth. The red grouper hit a little better than the gag in these depths but both were hitting.

  • Get ready for football

    The first official football practice for the 2013 Williston Red Devils starts Monday, Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
    Potential players for both varisty and junior varisty will need a current physical and should pick up a red athletic packet from the high school office staff or Coach Jamie Baker.
