  • Rea Samuels signs with McPherson

    Williston senior Rea Samuels has been considering her many options for the last several months leading up to her graduation from Williston High School.
    A four year track and field star who has dominated her competition, Samuels has chosen to accept a four-year scholarship to attend McPherson College in McPherson, Kan.
    Her father, Hector Samuels, spoke to the large crowd of family and friends who attended her signing  May 15, in the school cafeteria.

  • Season comes to an end for the Diamond Red Devils

    The outstanding season for the Williston Red Devil Baseball team came to an end  May 11, as the Red Devils fell to Bishop Moore 9-3 before a super large crowd of Williston Red Devil fans.
    As the Red Devils were unable to pull off a come-from-behind win. the crowd rose to itsfeet in true appreciation for the young men who wore the Williston uniform and played with sportsmanship and pride all season long.
    This season proved to be the best season for a Red Devil baseball team ending with a 25-4 season record, and two playoff wins, a first in nearly 90 years.

  • Football? Spring practice paves way for the season

    It is called spring football practice at high schools all over the state of Florida. The Williston Red Devils are no different than other high schools as they begin to work out the kinks, get unused muscles tightened and begin to work on skills needed for the athletes come next fall.
    Not all of the Red Devil team members are taking advantage of the spring practice that started May 1 and ends with the annual spring game to be played May 24.
    Several potential team members are involved in AAU basketball and are not available for spring football practice.

  • Lady Indians outslug Red Devils

    Thirty-nine runs crossed home plate April 10 before the Lady Indians took down Williston’s Lady Red Devils in a 21-18 win. 

    After the Red Devils scored two runs in the top of the first inning off a two RBI single by Jasilyn Williams, Chiefland’s Taylore Fuller led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run on a ball hit off the fence in the corner of the right field alley.

     Mychayla Franklin collected another RBI for the Lady Indians to tie the game at 2-2 after one full inning of play.

  • Strange homerun seals Lady Red Devils’ victory

    Senior Akiria Strange lifted the Williston Lady Red Devils to their third win of the season with a three-run homerun that cleared the fence by 5 feet. 

    With two runners on base and trailing the Lady Bears 5-4, Strange blasted her first home run of the year for the senior night win. 

    Strange has played in right field for the Lady Red Devils this year.  The three-run homerun lifted the Lady Red Devils to a 7-5 win over the Dixie County Lady Bears.

  • Red Devils down Tigers in slugfest 15-12

    The 13 and 2 Williston Red Devil Baseball team hosted a non district Dunnellon team on Thursday night March 29, at the Devils Den.
    Justin Baker 5-0 on the season took the mound for the Red Devils.
    The Red Devils scored in every inning as they plated 1 run in the first and a run in the second for a 2-0 lead in the game. Baker struck out the side in the first inning, and added another strike out in the second inning of the game for the Red Devils.

  • Red Devils take regular season district lead at halfway mark

    With just four district games remaining that don’t come until the month of April, the Williston Red Devil baseball team moved atop the regular season district Friday night.
    The Red Devils faced the Fort White Indians at the Devils Den March 16, intent on getting revenge for their only district loss of the season.
    The game was tied at 0-0 after two complete innings of play before the Red Devils opened the gates in the bottom of the third inning.

  • Williston’s Red Devils tame the Tigers

    In a Monday night baseball game, the Williston Red Devil's–after a slow start–turned their hitters loose on the Union County Tigers with a big fifth inning.
    The Tigers threatened to take an early lead as they left at least two base runners on base in the first three innings.
     The Red Devil defense stepped up each inning in the early going and kept the game scoreless through the first three innings.

  • Red Devils claim regular season district title

    The Williston Red Devils won the class 4A regular season District Jan. 27,  as they defeated the Bradford Tornadoes 69-58.
    The Red Devils will host the district playoffs for the third straight year winning the regular season district.
    The Red Devils jumped out to a quick lead as they held the 6'10” Bradford center Justin McBride to just seven first half points.

  • Red Devils squeak by Raiders

    The district tournament playoffs are just over a week away and the Santa Fe Raiders have served notice it will be a three-way race this year.

     It was one of those games that neither the Raiders nor the Red Devils could get their game going at full strength due to the whistles and foul shooting by the Red Devils again. 

    The Raiders jumped out to an early lead as they led the game by a 33-25 margin at half time.
