  • Skies open; game called in third

     Following a busy week-end tournament that saw the Lady Red Devils win three of four games, they were back in action March 29, hosting the 4A North Marion Lady Colts.
    The skies were seriously gray and overcast, and the rain was certain to come. It was just a matter of when.
    A softball game in order to be an official game must complete at least five innings. Tonight this game failed to make it past the third inning before the lightning came and the sky opened.

  • Lady Red Devils playing .500 ball

    The Lady Red Devils lost their first three district games to put themselves at the bottom of the regular season district race. They have since won three in a row to pull to .500 in the regular season district race with two games remaining. They host Ft. White on April 6, and travel to Newberry on April 7.
    The District Tournament play starts at Santa Fe on April 19, 20 and 22. If the 2011 Lady Red Devils hope to repeat their run for a state title, it will take additions to the present under manned and shortened roster.

  • Red Devils fall short in Tiffany Poupard Memorial Game

    Dressed in lime green jerseys last Friday evening, the Red Devil Baseball team held its annual Tiffany Poupard Memorial game.
    Lime green was Poupard’s favorite color, so to honor the Red Devil baseball supporter who was killed in an automobile accident in 2009, the team once again paid their respects.
    Poupard’s daughter Madelynn, threw out the first pitch in the brief ceremony before the game.
    The game, against the Santa Fe Raiders, was for a tie and top seed in the district with a win out for the Red Devils.

  • Red Devil Challenge ends on good note for Devils

    The three day Red Devil Challenge at City Field came to an end March 16, with the following results:

  • Hurricanes flattened by Lady Red Devils

     On  March 11, the Lady Red Devils traveled to Gainesville to play the Lady Hurricanes. The Lady Devils had little trouble with the Canes as they took a 14-0 win in five innings on the 10-run rule.
    The win, however, was costly for the Lady Devils as starting pitcher Tori Stamper injured her pitching hand on a slide into second base. The injury was mainly to the middle finger of her pitching hand. Still showing some bruising and slight swelling on Monday night, Stamper said her hand was much better.

  • Red Devils take bite out of Bulldogs

    On Friday evening the Williston Red Devils hosted and defeated  the Suwannee Bulldogs 3-1 at City Field.
    The Bulldogs got out to a fast start as they had their first two batters reach base. They continued to move the base runners around but, could manage just one run as the Red Devil defense took over and ended the inning with a double play.

  • Red Devils even record at 3-3

    The Williston Red Devil Baseball team traveled to Ft. White on Friday evening March 4 to take on District foe Ft. White.
    The Red Devils won the game in 9 innings 4-3.
    This win moved the Red Devils to 2-1 in district play and 3-3 over all for the young season.
    Connor Clayton got the win for the Red Devils as he came in to relieve starting pitcher Justin Baker after seven innings.
    Baker recorded  12 strike outs in his seven innings on the mound.

  • Red Devil Challenge starts Monday

    The Williston 7th Annual Red Devil Baseball Challenge is just around the corner.
    The tournament will be held March 14-16 at the Williston City Field.
    Monday, March 14
    Game 1- Trinity Catholic vs. West Port       1 p.m.
    Game 2-  Citrus     vs. Ocala Forest        4 p.m.
    Game 3- Williston     vs. Ocala Forest      7 p.m.
    Tuesday, March 15

  • End of the Road

    The Williston Red Devils sent The Villages packing in the regional quarterfinal, then the Santa Fe Raiders in the semifinals after having the game moved to Bronson, then came the regional finals, again moved to Bronson.
    But it was there the  Red Devils  came up short, losing to Orlando Jones Saturday night  in the last 22 seconds.
