  • Red Devils get kicked by Colts in Kingdom of the Sun 76-64

The Williston Red Devil boys’ varsity basketball team played its normal aggressive and attacking defense while the North Marion Colts kept their two big men under the offensive board while avoiding any three second calls.
Getting one rebound and put back after another, the Colts hung in the game the first half strictly from the foul line.
The Red Devils were whistled for 14 team fouls to the Colts 6 team fouls and the Red Devils put the Colts in the bonus with six minutes remaining in the second quarter.

  • JV hands Ft. White 50-48 win

The Williston JV basketball team held a 25-14 halftime lead over the JV Ft. White Indians.
During the second half, the Indians Billy Whitney with 12 points, and Nick Butler  with 14 points, along with a tightened pressure defense, pulled the Indians even at 40-40 with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
The Indians then exploded for 8 straight points off of Red Devil turnovers. The Red Devils then made a come back of their own pulling within 2 points at 50-48.

  • Rusty Red Devils pull away from Ft. White 64-44

The Williston Red Devils didn’t appear to be on their game when they took on the Ft. White Indians Dec. 8 to defend their district championship.
The Red Devils held on and they pulled away late for a 64-44 win.
“We have a lot of work to do,” said head coach Steve Faulkner following the game. “I hope we were just rusty from our two week layoff,” Faulkner continued.
“We didn’t look very good tonight, but when you get a district win on the road, that’s good,” Faulkner said.

  • Red Devils take down Lake Weir

The game was between two teams that wanted to run up and down the court.  The Williston Red Devils were hosting the 4A Lake Weir Hurricanes with a 5-1 season record.
Red Devil Jacques Edwards led the Red Devils in the first quarter as he dropped in 5 points in the first minutes of the game.
The Red Devils, after taking a 25-12 first quarter lead, appeared to be unable to rebound  in the second quarter, as the Hurricanes made a constant run at the Red Devils getting third and fourth attempts off the offensive boards.

  • Roster-light Red Devils drop second game at PK

With the full roster of players still not reporting to the Red Devil basketball team, the team is struggling on the boards.
At times in the contest at PK Yonge on Friday night Nov. 19, the Red Devils had five players well under six foot tall on the floor in their 71-56 loss to the Blue Wave.
The entire night, despite three-point baskets by Paul King, Jacques Edwards, and James Monroe, it was one shot a trip down the floor for the Red Devils.

  • Rebounding will be key to winning season

After leading a very talented 2009-2010 Red Devil basketball team to the State Final Four in his first season as the Head Coach of the Williston Red Devils, Steve Faulkner is again ready to take the helm of the 2010-2011 Red Devils.
Gone are the likes of Deonte Welch, Isaac Floyd, and Kelsey Coleman who played a big role in the Red Devils attack last season.
“These were three quality players and each had leadership qualities that is hard to replace,” said Faulkner.

  • Red Devils fall in Gainesville Classic

It was a run and gun, basket trading, wide open game between 5A defending State Champion Gainesville High School and the 3A Williston Red Devils coming off a trip to the Final Four last season.
With several Gainesville players still on the football team going to the playoffs against Tarpon Springs, and four Williston players playing in a football Bowl Game at West Nassau one would not expect both teams to score in the 80s. But that is just what happened on Thursday night, Nov. 18, at the Gainesville Gym when the Hurricanes won 88-83.

  • Lady Red Devils have new coach

The 2010-2011 Williston Lady Red Devil Basketball team kicked off its season Tuesday under new first year Varsity Coach Denise Lahusky.

Lahusky comes to Williston along with her husband Jon.

She teaches Earth Space Science at Williston High School after relocating from Utah.

Lahusky is moving up to take the helm of the Lady Red Devils Basketball program from a track and field coaching position in the State of Utah.

  • Red Devils go flat at Union County

The Williston Red Devil football team ran into a group of fired up Tigers Friday night in Lake Butler. This Tiger’s name was Union County, and you could certainly say a defensive juggernaut.
The Red Devils were held to a mere 150 total yards of offense and just one touchdown in the 28-7 loss to the Tigers.
The Tigers were coming off four straight losses, but you would never have guessed it by the way they simply dominated the entire game from start to finish.

  • Homecoming Victory

It was homecoming night at Booster Stadium, and the Newberry Panthers had only one thing in mind–spoil the night for Williston.
But the Red Devils had other plans after falling behind early in the second half as the Panthers scored the go ahead touchdown following a Red Devil kick off fumble.
The Red Devils had to answer twice with scoring drives. The last drive concluded with just 52 seconds remaining in the game as Dontrell Edwards scampered 22 yards for the winning touchdown, giving the Red Devils a 32-27 win.
