The newspaper business—both small and large papers—has sounded full-throated opposition this past month about a plan by the U.S. Postal Service to purposely entice advertising out of the newspaper so ads can be placed instead with USPS favored stakeholder Valassis Inc., which bought direct mail company ADVO in 2006.

To the editor:
The other day while I was at the post ofice, I noticed an advertisement flyer for their new “Go Green” stamps. This was double-sided 8.5”x3.75” multi-colored flyer.
I realize that we (the general public) must purchase stamps  to put our correspondence into the postal delivery system BUT this is a government monopoly and does not need to advertise their product. Where or who do we go to if we need stamps–the USPS (and their distributors)  because only they can produce and sell the product–the STAMP.

      I want to publicly thank two of our city employees, Paul Lord and Kurt Heine.  While reading our gas meter, Paul thought he smelled gas and reported it.  A pin-hole leak was found on the city side and within two hours the pipe was replaced. 

 And even though we don’t like to see trees cut back, the tree trimmers, Michael Miller and Franklin Tyndal, also need to be recognized for the very dangerous work they do to keep limbs out of the power lines.
