    Tough times were ahead for the Bronson football program at this time last year. 

    Despite coming off back-to-back non-losing seasons for the first time in 10 years, it was dealt a series of offseason blows, culminating in the departure of its head coach on the first day of football practice, that would lead to a 0-10 fall campaign.

  • Bronson Council discusses parking improvements

    At its meeting on July 5, the Bronson town council applauded another successful run of its annual Fourth of July celebration at James H. Cobb Park, while discussing the need for a more robust parking solution.

  • Four plead guilty in sex cases

    Last week the 8th Judicial Circuit Court of Levy County concluded several cases presented to the State Attorney’s Office by the LCSO where the defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced. 

  • Levy County Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • July 5, Theresa Elizabeth Betts, 28, Chiefland, petit theft, VOP. Bond $500.

    • July 9, Bobby Dwayne Carnley, 31, Chiefland, touch or strike. Bond $5,000.

    • July 5, Cody Brandon Coley, 19, Chiefland, aggravated child abuse. Bond $10,000.

    • July 10, Rachel Lynn Davis, 29, Williston, giving false ID to law enforcement officer, out of county warrant.

  • Williston gets legal protection

    The Williston City Council has approved its attorney's suggestion that all city purchase orders have wording that limits its liability to what is allowed by state statute.

  • Toddler found wandering on highway

    Motorist Mitzi Lacoste, a travelling nurse, could not believe her eyes when she spotted the truck in front of her braking –for a toddler dressed only in a shirt, walking by himself about 6 feet off of U.S. Highway 19 approximately ¾ of a mile north of the caution light at Gulf Hammock.

  • Candidate forum is July 23

    There will be a Levy County Candidate Forum on Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Williston Community Center at 50 N.W. Main St., Williston. The primary election on Aug. 30 for county offices will be a universal primary open to all voters regardless of party registration and will serve as a “general election” for offices where all the candidates are of one party. 

  • Commission not happy with I-75 plan

    The Levy County Commission is not happy with the state’s plans to relieve pressure on I-75, which runs through Alachua County to the east by possibly putting a high-speed, toll road that would go up the east side of Levy County – and they are putting their distress in writing.

  • Owens' family welcomes new daughter

     Allison and Jeremy Owens of Royston, Ga. announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, Piper Rae, born at 1:45 p.m. June 27, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Ga.

    The baby weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Carolyn (Tom) Ten Broeck of Williston and Bill Risner of Canon, Ga.

    Paternal grandparents are the late Jerry and Diane Owens of Elberton, Ga.
