  • County criticized over handling of insurance, wage changes

    The Levy Board of County Commissioners Tuesday came under criticism during public comments for their handling of recent changes to insurance and wages for county employees.

    The Board on July 18 voted unanimously to cap insurance payouts while offering tiered offsets in the form of increased wages.

  • County OKs tax amnesty

    Some is better than none.

    That’s the message Levy Tax Collector Linda Fugate delivered to the Board of County Commissioners Aug. 8 as she sought a fee amnesty on delinquent tangible taxes.

    Fugate’s office is partnering with a third-party vendor to help collect delinquent tangible rolls. The vendor will provide manpower to collect property in order to auction and recover the delinquent tax revenue where possible.

  • Third person arrested in murder investigation

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office has arrested a third person in connection with the home invasion that took the life of James Patterson. Steven Demar Stacy, 34, of Williston is accused to disposing of the firearms used in the home invasion. To date the firearms have not been recovered.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Aug. 1, David Albritton, 42, Morriston, non-support of children or spouse.

    • Aug. 1, Richard Irving Avis, 38, Bronson, sexual battery on victim under 12 years of age. Bond $1 million.

    • Aug. 6, Michael W. Barcinas, 35, Williston, possession of cocaine, and/or use. Bond $26,000.

    • Aug. 5, Kayla Brianne Castor, 23, Trenton, VOP.

    Gospel Fest

    The 16th Annual WE SOAR Gospel Fest will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at Unity Temple International Fellowship, 2351 NE 200th Ave., Williston.

    Doors open at 4 p.m. and the music starts at 5 p.m. Featured musical guests include Danny Nunn, Wanda Cobb, The Kingdom Singers, Anne Mixon Stacy, Dancing with a Purpose and Inspirational Daughters of Joy.

    Movie In The Park

    The city of Williston will present another Movie in the Park night beginning at 7:30 Friday, July 28 at the Heritage Park Pavilion.

    Admission is free and popcorn and drink will be provided free of charge. Bring a chair or blanket and your family and enjoy the movie.

  • A Life Remembered

    It’s been 29 years since David Moss walked the streets of Williston, doing what he had sworn to do: serve and protect the city’s residents.

    It was Saturday, July 30, 1988 when Cpl. Moss of the Williston Police Department was shot and killed while attempting to assist with what was thought to be a disabled vehicle.

  • It was always Vanessa

    I was 9 when my older brother, Eugene, married Vanessa; 10 when they made me an aunt with the birth of David and almost 19 when they divorced – now the parents of three sons.

    It was a hard divorce for me even though I was away at college.
