    It's time to start thinking about the 29th Annual North Central Florida Peanut Festival, scheduled this year for Saturday, Oct. 7.

    The Williston Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for booth space at the event. Visit www.willistonfl.com or come by the Chamber office at 607 SW 1st. Avenue between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

    Applications for Little Peanut Royalty are also at the Chamber office, city hall and the Chamber website.

    The city of Williston will present Movie in the Park Friday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Park Pavilion.

    Please bring a chair or blanket and come and enjoy a grown-up friendly movie with free popcorn and drinks provided and sponsored by the First United Methodist Church Youth Group and Maguire’s Auto Repair.

  • County weighs in on medical marijuana

    The state has begun to clarify its position on the regulation of marijuana dispensaries after voters passed a ballot measure last November to allow the sale of medical marijuana in Florida.

    Levy County currently has a moratorium banning the sale of medical marijuana, but it will soon have to make a somewhat longer-term decision.

    At the recent meeting of the Board of Levy County Commissioners, Board chair John Meeks reported some of his findings on the issue from the Florida Association of Counties Conference.

    • June 26, Kelby Evans Andrews, 55, Chiefland, assault with a deadly weapon w/o intent to kill. Bond $50,000.

    • June 29, Nickole Alice Avery, 42, Bell, grand theft, out of county warrant, make/utter/issue document over $150. Bond $21,503.59.

    • June 29, Roy Keith Avery, 53, Bell, FTA. ROR.

    PuroClean will sponsor a Williston Chamber of Commerce Mixer Thursday, June 29 from 5-6:30 p.m. at 703 NW 7th Blvd., Williston.

    Guest speaker will be Michael Chung from the Small Business Development Council. Chung will offer information and tips on how business owners can help grow their businesses.

    There will be food, drinks, raffles and opportunity to network with other business owners.

    • June 20, John William Brown, 35, Chiefland, touch or strike. Bond $5,000.

    • June 25, Timothy Lavane Cobb, 44, Chiefland, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, armed burglary of a dwelling, structure or conveyance, grand theft, grand theft of a firearm.

  • Williston man charged with false imprisonment

    A Williston man was arrested last week and charged with the false imprisonment of a woman he allegedly picked up in another county before bringing her to a NE 200th Avenue residence in Williston.

    According to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Willie C. McCray, a 10-time felon, was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, false imprisonment, depriving a person of 911, felony battery and resisting an officer.
