    The use of food stamps in Levy County increased during the recession, assisting families in stretching their food dollars, contributing to local spending and helping spark a national debate about the future of the federal nutrition program.

    The streets of Williston are safer this week thanks to the dogged pursuit of Police Chief Dennis Strow and his officers in an investigation that culminated Friday with the capture of a three-year fugitive.

  • Devils score a win against North Marion

    The Lady Red Devils were able to get their first victory of the season last Wednesday, as they defeated North Marion High School in a thrilling comeback at home. Williston had trailed two games to one but were able to rally back and win 3 - 2. 

  • Courts hand down sentences

     

    The following people were sentenced in Levy County courts during March:

    Paul Lavell Alexander Jr., VOP on 2 counts of cocaine possession, probation reinstated and modified to have curfew from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Must pay probation and VOP costs.

    • Sept. 1, Ranie Ronald Baker, 55, Inglis, out of county warrant. Bond $250.

    • Aug. 26, Melba Paige Alexander, 23, Williston, non support of children or spouse. Bond $500.
    • Aug. 26, Erica Sue Allen, 36, Inglis, two counts non support of children or spouse. Bond $1,160.
    • Aug. 26, Eugene Carter, 53, Cross City, non support of children or spouse. Bond $586.
    • Aug. 25, Tammie Lee Chapin, 23, Archer, abuse without great harm to child. Bond $40,000.
    • Aug. 26, Walter R. Clark, 40, Chiefland, non support of children or child support.

  • Things I learned from teachers that I wonder if they teach today

    Schools across the country are back in session after what probably seemed like a very short summer. Unless you're a parent, that is.
    I remember being so excited for school to start every year. Truthfully it was more about socializing than learning, but I actually enjoyed learning too.
    And many things I learned–especially in elementary school–have stuck with me more years than I care to disclose.
    A couple weeks ago, Tom and I took a weekend trip to cat sit for his sister in Ft. Myers.

  • Red Devils fall 14-7 in pre-season Classic

    The Red Devils opened up their 2014-2015 season last Friday night as they were defeated 14-7 in a tight game against the Central High School Bears. The game consisted of just one half of football with no live special teams but was still a spirited contest nonetheless.
