    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    • Aug. 26, Melba Paige Alexander, 23, Williston, non support of children or spouse. Bond $500.
    • Aug. 26, Erica Sue Allen, 36, Inglis, two counts non support of children or spouse. Bond $1,160.
    • Aug. 26, Eugene Carter, 53, Cross City, non support of children or spouse. Bond $586.
    • Aug. 25, Tammie Lee Chapin, 23, Archer, abuse without great harm to child. Bond $40,000.
    • Aug. 26, Walter R. Clark, 40, Chiefland, non support of children or child support.

  • Things I learned from teachers that I wonder if they teach today

    Schools across the country are back in session after what probably seemed like a very short summer. Unless you're a parent, that is.
    I remember being so excited for school to start every year. Truthfully it was more about socializing than learning, but I actually enjoyed learning too.
    And many things I learned–especially in elementary school–have stuck with me more years than I care to disclose.
    A couple weeks ago, Tom and I took a weekend trip to cat sit for his sister in Ft. Myers.

  • Red Devils fall 14-7 in pre-season Classic

    The Red Devils opened up their 2014-2015 season last Friday night as they were defeated 14-7 in a tight game against the Central High School Bears. The game consisted of just one half of football with no live special teams but was still a spirited contest nonetheless.

    If Williston Head Football Coach Cliff Lohrey has any apprehension, fear or dread about the 2014 season, he’s not letting it show.

    In his first year as the Red Devils’ gridiron leader, Lohrey is all smiles heading into tomorrow night’s season opener against P.K. Yonge on the opponents’ home field.

  • Miss Moody to marry Mr. Beasley Oct. 11

    The engagement of Adrienne Victoria Moody to Allen Martin Beasley is announced by her parents, Mrs. Owen Baynard, and Mr. and Mrs. Horace A. Moody of Destin.

    She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Pansy Robinson of Bronson.

    The bride-elect is a 1999 graduate of Chiefland High School.

    She is a graduate of Santa Fe College with associate degrees in arts and science. She is employed by Edmiston and Edmiston PA in St. Augustine.

    The future groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce A. Beasley of Ethel, La.

  • Deans celebrate 70th wedding anniversary

     Mr. and Mrs. James G. Dean celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 28. 

    The couple was married in Ft. Lauderdale Aug. 28, 1944 after James, a member of the U. S. Marine Corps, returned from the South Pacific, where he participated in the invasions of Guadalcanal and New Guinea.

    After the end of WWII, the couple resided in Miami until 1959, when they moved to Williston.  He spent his early years in Levy County and the return brought them closer to family.

  • Landon Oaks kickstarts subdivision

    There’s a new subdivision in town.

    Landon Oaks, developed by Coldwell Banker’s Marilyn Deas, it is located off of SW 7th Avenue, just down past the police station.

    “I really am excited,” said Coldwell Real Estate Agent Rhonda Sweat, “I’m also proud of the product, incredibly proud of the house that we did.”

    The eight-lot subdivision features one model home and they already have contracts for two more to be built.

  • TRIM notices hit mail today

    Levy County Property Appraiser Oz Barker informed the Levy County Commission on Tuesday that this year's Truth in Millage (TRIM) notices will be hitting the mail today (Thursday) and Friday.
