     It was just about this time of year 23 years ago that I was struck with a fast and unusual malaise.

    I didn’t think a lot about it. I was a mother of two, ages 5 and 7, and working two jobs so it was only natural I was always fatigued.

    May 1 in swirling wind and light rain, the Williston Red Devils varsity baseball team hosted the South Sumter Raiders in the FHSAA Regional Quarter Finals.

    The weather played a large part in a tough fought game but Williston’s base running gave them the edge it took to move forward to the semi-finals.

    Trent Johnson took the mound for the Red Devils and South Sumter’s ace Garrett Cave took the mound for the Raiders.

    April 20, Armand R. Campanile, 53, Sanford, out of county warrant. Bond $500.

    May 5, Franklin D. Clark, 75, Tampa, DWLSR.

    April 29, Larry Joe Colson, 39, Suwannee, out of county warrant. Bond $3,500.

    May 5, Nichole Michelle Fain, 36, Inglis, grand theft.

  • Williston prays for America

    Over 75 people braved threatening skies to attend Williston's National Day of Prayer ceremony at noon last Thursday.

    Speakers, representing more than a half dozen churches, took turns praying for the country, state, leaders and families during the hour-long service held at the gazebo in Heritage Park.

    The ceremony marks the 62nd year for the National Day of Prayer, said Williston organizer Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat. The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Pray for America” , Hethcoat said.

    Born into a musical family that included his father and brother, it was only natural that like a moth to flame he would migrate to music.

    And for the last 40 plus years, he’s stayed there.

  • Morriston man sought for theft; arrest made in Ace case

    Staff Report

    The Williston Police Department is seeking information on locating a Morriston man who may have passed forged checks Between March 31 and April 25.

    According to Police Chief Dennis Strow, Angelo V. Leto Jr., 47, of Morriston is wanted on six counts of forgery, six counts of uttering a forged instrument, six counts of grand theft, six counts of petit theft and a count of  theft.
