    Baxley to speak to AARP members

    Stearns staffer to be in Williston

    A member of Congressman Cliff Stearns_ staff will be in Bronson and Williston on March 10.

    He will visit Bronson from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Commission chambers, and Williston from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

  • Cantata is March 15 at Holy Family

    "Look to the Lamb," a community Easter cantata, will be held March 15-16 at 5 p.m. each day at Holy Family Catholic Church's parish hall.

    This year for Easter musicians from Williston First United Methodist Church and Holy Family Catholic church embark on a new adventure: remembering Christ's death and celebrating his resurrection through participation in the Williston community Easter cantata.

    Everyone is invited. Come and glorify God with them.

  • Daddy's Sweetheart Dance

    The Daddy's Sweetheart Dance that was held on Saturday, March 1, was a huge success. The father-daughter couples enjoyed dancing the night away and played the toilet paper mummy game. Thanks to willing fathers and their princess daughters $1,907 was raised. Proceeds will go to Joyce Bullock Elementary and Williston Elementary. This dance was sponsored by the Williston Junior Woman's Club. Additional pictures from the dance are available at www.willistonjuniors.org.

  • Students of the Month honored

    The Williston City Council presented its first Student of the Month awards at its Tuesday evening meeting.

    The council decided recently to honor outstanding students at each of the Williston schools on a monthly basis to underline the importance of education and to recognize those young people who embody the best of Williston.

  • Holloway wins

    Brooks Holloway was elected to the Williston City Council Tuesday by a 138-58 margin over Lindsey Hager.

    A referendum to allow tax breaks for new businesses was approved, 111-79, but city residents narrowly voted down a proposal to extend the terms of mayor and council members to three years by a margin of 99-95.

    More details will be posted late Wednesday or Thursday.

    A free Easter Egg Hunt is being planned for Saturday, March 8 at the Johnny T. Henry Celebration Park on Northwest 4th Street one block north of Noble Avenue and near the Williston Health Care Center.

  • WHS pitchers no-hit Bronson

    Maybe it wasn't pretty, but a no-hitter is a no-hitter.

    Four Williston pitchers combined for a no-hitter Friday night as the Red Devils defeated Bronson's baseball team, 10-3.

    As you might guess from Bronson's three runs, there were a few control issues, but the Devils were able to overcome the challenges.

    Brandon Scott was the starter, and he threw three innings, walking only one and striking out three. One batter reached on a throwing error.

  • WMS tops Lake Butler

    The Williston Middle School baseball team smothered Lake Butler, 17-7, in a mercy-rule five-inning game Monday.

    Max White and Bradley Jones each had a single and a triple, Justin Baker had two singles, and Trent Johnson and Justin Forsyth each had a single.

    Austin Etheridge pitched into the fourth inning and struck out six, while reliever Max White struck out four.

    The team travels to Bell today (Thursday) and visits Chiefland Friday, then returns home Monday to face Fort White, while entertaining Chiefland Tuesday.
