  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Dept. announces the following arrests:

    Michael Bonaccorsi, 25, of Northeast 46th Street, Williston, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, Edocet which has an active ingredient of oxycodone, after he was searched during a traffic stop for an expired tag.

    Kenneth Alex McClellan, 34, of Southeast 4th Street, Williston, was arrested on a warrant of civil order of arrest, failure to pay child support.

  • Man arrested for 72nd time

    Twelve people have been arrested on drug charges in Williston, including one man with 72 arrests on his record and a second man with 31 arrests on his record - including failure to appear on in court on four drug charges.

    The arrests by the Levy County Sheriff's Office and the County Drug Task Force this month are for offenses dating as far back as April.

    The Board of Trustees, staff and consumers of the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens wish to thank everyone who came out to and participated in the LARC Softball Challenge game Saturday night at Strickland Park. It was a lot of fun watching the political candidates hit that ball and run those bases!

    4-H Roundup

    to be Aug. 23

    Levy County 4-H will hold its annual Roundup Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Extension Office in Bronson. The Hartley Barbecued Chicken Contest will begin at 8 a.m.

  • Perkins marks 95th anniversary

    Perkins State Bank held a celebration in conjunction with the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce last Thursday to celebrate the bank's 95th anniversary. Various bank officials and members of the business and political community attended.

    Bank president Frank Etheridge welcomed the group, which got to view memorabilia from the years that the bank had been in service.

  • Football scrimmage called off

    The Williston Red Devils varsity and JV football teams are practicing for the upcoming season. The Red Devil coaching staff dispensed instruction and motivation to their young and talented players. Both squads showed exceptional team speed and fitness. The Red Devils will play at home against Inverness Citrus in the Preseason Classic on Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. The first regular game is the following Friday, Sept. 5, at home against P.K. Yonge.

  • Getting ready for August vote

    You have to wonder about the people running our state government when they set an election before Labor Day, just at the end of August.

    That's the case this year as we have the primary day next Tuesday, Aug. 26.

    And the term primary is misleading. In some cases, where people from only one party are running, this is the actual election.

    Party labels at this level are somewhat meaningless, yet we're saddled with those labels determining who can vote for certain candidates.

  • Schools closed Friday

    All public schools in Levy County will be closed on Friday, Aug. 22, according to an announcement on the School Board Web site, because of Tropical Storm Fay.

  • Comp plan presented to city

    The Aug. 19 meeting of Williston's City Council consisted largely of planning and housekeeping items.

    The annual modifications to the city's comprehensive plan were presented to the council. This exercise is undertaken each year during the budgeting period. The changes reflect projects undertaken or completed during the previous year and changes in projections for future activity.
