  • Soccer team booted by P.K.

    Red Devil soccer fell to P.K. Yonge 6-2 on Friday night. The game was a physical match between the young Red Devil squad and the veteran Blue Wave team.

    The Red Devils' senior captain Susie Smith was out with an ankle injury, and senior captain Abby Rodriguez was out for most of the game when she hurt her knee in the first half. The young Devils struggled in the first half, going to the break down 5-0, but came back with a strong effort in the second half, scoring two goals while only allowing P.K. one score.

  • Girls split in district

    For the Williston girls, the past week produced one good district win, and another game they'd rather not talk about.

    With two starters out, the Red Devils defeated Fort White, 71-49, but then had to go to P.K. Yonge on Thursday, and the result was a 101-28 loss.

    WILLISTON 71, FORT WHITE 49: The local girls gradually pulled away from the Indians, despite the absence of Margaret Brown (injured arm) and Kim Dobbins (injured foot).

  • Win over P.K. was week's highlight

    Coming off a stunning win against P.K. Yonge last week, Williston High School's boys defeated Fort White on Friday night, but then saw their winning streak snapped Monday by Newberry.

    WILLISTON 57, P.K. YONGE 54: The Devils stunned the North Central Florida basketball world Thursday night with a 57-54 win over P.K. Yonge in a battle of two unbeaten teams.

    It was believed to be P.K.'s first district loss in seven years. The Blue Wave were ranked fourth in the Class 3A poll.

  • House damaged by fire

    Williston Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire on Dec. 10 two miles north on CR 241 off Alt Hwy 27. On arrival Williston Fire units reported a log cabin style home with flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof. The on scene officer requested immediate assistance for water tankers and engines for Bronson, Morriston and Alachua County Fire Departments. Due to the homeowner calling 911 quickly and hard efforts of all firefighters the home should be able to be rebuilt even though the home had heavy damage to the roof.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Reports

    A Crystal River woman was arrested Dec. 9 after she allegedly committed aggravated battery and allegedly resisted arrest without violence, according to records.

    Santa Maria Shaffer, 31, allegedly hit someone with a beer bottle when they were at the Hickory Island Lounge in Inglis.

    Levy County Sheriff's Deputy Ronald Byrd responded to a complaint about this alleged attack.

    The victim told the deputy that Shaffer hit her with the bottle.

  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Department announces the following arrests:

    *Marna Aracely Merida-Salasar, 20, of Southeast Fifth Street, Williston, was charged by officer Michael Bracaglia with driving while license suspended or revoked after being stopped for speeding in the 300 block of West Noble Avenue on Dec. 9.

    *Jose Julio Navedo, 22, of Willistgon was charged by Sgt. Matthew Fortney with driving while license suspended or revoked after being stopped for driving at night with no lights on in the 400 block of West Noble Avenue on Dec. 8.

    On behalf of the GFWC Williston Junior Woman's Club I would like to thank the Williston community for their overwhelming support of this year's Christmas Parade and Light Up Williston. The Junior Woman's Club has sponsored the Christmas Parade for many years and this year we also sponsored the Light Up Williston festivities. Our club feels these events bring joy to many in the area and are worthy of our support.

  • CRA eyes update of plans

    At the Williston's Community Redevelopment Agency's last meeting of the year, members dealt with long-term plans and shorter-term concerns.

    At the urging of David Connolly, Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council principal planner, CRA members spent considerable time Dec. 10 considering modifications to the plan that had been developed when the agency was formed in 2002.

  • Fire Department helps Santa get through city

    Santa's reindeer were still at the North Pole resting up for Christmas Eve, so it fell to the Williston Volunteer Fire Department to transport the bearded, red-clad man around town on Saturday. Sleigh #72 was hooked up to the Fire Chief's truck, driven by Danny Wallace. Santa sat high on the sleigh, with his elves in front, distributing gifts to children throughout the city. Officer Jimmy Willis followed in an Auxiliary Police car to insure the safety of the children who waited to see Santa.
