  • Upcoming tax amendment explained

    First of four parts

BRONSON - Levy County Property Appraiser Francis Akins recently provided the first of four informational releases to explain a ballot question set for the Jan. 29 election.

Akins said that based on an average of 18 mills, a home valued at or above $75,000 would generate about $188.50 in savings if this proposed revision to the Florida Constitution is approved by voters.

Akins performed more calculations to show actual savings at current millages for various parts of Levy County for the increased Homestead Exemption amendment.

  • From the kitchen

Christmas and even New Year's is past for another year. We have all somehow survived one more year of trying some new recipes and making the traditional ones. But then, a few days before Christmas, everything was made and stored so that gift plates could be made and Jim and I would have goodies throughout the remainder of the season.

Recently I've been out in the woods during dusk, when the sun is disappearing and the trees look black against an orange-streaked sky.
