  • New City Hall plan moves to next step

    The face of downtown Williston may soon change more dramatically than it has in recent months.

    Walgreens will open in the spring, of course, and the new Williston Business Plaza on South Main Street is already full. Work will soon begin on the block of Linear Park in front of City Hall - which may not be city hall for very long.

  • Wild observations

    It can be difficult finding things to write about in this column when I haven't made any trips to some different wildlife area. Winter can also pose a challenge even in Florida, because many plants have gone to seed and birds are not migrating through or nesting.

    One flock of birds is migrating now, made late by weather conditions. The whooping cranes, accompanied by their human escort, will be traveling through our area. By the time this column is published they may already be in Crystal River, their winter home. It seems they will have little time before heading north again.

  • Robinson, Downs to wed

    Donnette Robinson of Bronson announces the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter Kristin Lynn Robinson to Matthew Downs. The wedding is planned for March 22, 2008 in St. Augustine.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Raymond Robinson, Williston, and the granddaughter of Beulah Robinson. She is a 1996 graduate of Williston High School and is currently employed in the field of Property Management in Alexandria, Va., as a Community Director with UDR Inc.

    John and Mary Doherty announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Doherty, to Stephen Muse, son of Esther Caldwell and stepfather Wayne Caldwell, and Robert Muse and stepmother Karen Muse of Tennessee.

    She is a 1996 graduate of Williston High School and is employed by Kingston Dental.

    He is employed by Saddlebrook.

    Chamber dinner is Friday night

    The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce will be having its annual installation of officers banquet at Williston Crossings RV Resort on Friday, Jan. 25.

    Admission is $25 per person, which includes dinner. Corporate sponsorship tables are available for $500.

    Drawing for the Super $5,000 winner will take place that evening.

    Williston High School Band students Mark Julian, and Kirby King, were invited to take part in the Florida Music Educators' Association and Florida Bandmasters' Association convention by playing in the All State Small Schools Honor Band in Tampa Jan. 10-12.

  • Superintendent's Gala scheduled for February 2

    The Levy County Schools Foundation (LCSF) will host its eighth annual Superintendent's Gala on Saturday, Feb. 2. The event, which includes dinner and musical entertainment, will take place at 6 p.m. in the Williston Middle School cafetorium.

    The Gala is the premier fund-raiser for the Levy County Schools Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in 1989 to support Levy County schools. The event has become a Levy County tradition, providing an opportunity for members of the business community, civic leaders, and local residents to gather in support of local education.
