    Battle of the Bands

    There will be a Battle of the Bands at Goethe Trailhead Ranch April 24. A $10 donation per person is requested at the gate. Band deadline is April 10.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Officer reports the following arrests:

    Carl Brant Cumbo, 28, of Williston was charged with petit theft, resisting without violence and trespassing April 12. Bond was $5,000.

    Joasa Roy Ware, 22, of Fanning Springs was charged April 12 with theft and dealing in stolen property. Bond was $6,000.

    Donald Tyrone Wright, 21, of Fanning Springs was charged April 12 with dealing in stolen property. Bond was $5,000.

  • Williston man charged with aggravated battery

    Just before 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 14 Marion County Sheriff’s Office got an emergency call about a shooting at 30 Pecan Run Drive, Ocala.

    The investigation revealed James Burchett Jr., 24, of Williston came to the home looking for his wife. She, Sabrina Burchett, their 2 year-old son and an acquaintance who became the victim, Levi Anderson, were inside the home.

  • Red Devils singe fur off Tigers

    “Everybody hits, everybody scores” seemed to be the offensive theme Thursday night as the WHS Varsity Red Devil baseball team defeated the Union County Tigers 14-1 in Lake Butler.

    Senior right hander Andrew Poupard had a superb night on the mound recording seven strike outs at the plate and giving up only one unearned run on five hits.

    After trailing the Fort White Lady Indians and their fireball pitcher Taylor Douglas for six innings, the Lady Devils woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning for a come from behind 3-2 district playoff win.

  • SUV collides with moving train

    An SUV carrying three adults and six children collided with the lead engine of a northbound freight train Sunday in Morriston.

    According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2001 Lincoln Navigator driven by Eugenio Artero, 50, of Williston was traveling west on CR 464-east of US. Hwy. 41 and failed to yield to the train at an activated warning railroad crossing.

    The Navigator was occupied by three adults and six children all from Williston.

  • Gingrich aide gives Levy GOP ‘red-meat’ speech

    Rick Tyler, spokesman for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and co-counder of ReAL — Renewing American Leadership, said he felt a little intimidated to be speaking to a group whose last speaker was U.S. Senate Candidate Marco Rubio.

    Tyler spoke to the annual Lincoln-Reagan Memorial Dinner, hosted by the Levy County Republican Executive Committee, on April 23 in Chiefland. About 80 people attended the dinner.

  • Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests:

    • Eric William Elson, 37, of Chiefland was arrested April 21 for possession of paraphernalia at the Levy County Courthouse during a routine pat down when entering the building. Civil deputies discovered a glass pipe that was still warm and called sheriff’s deputies to the scene. It was learned Elson had missed his court date and was also charged on a warrant for failure to appear (FTA) for possession and paraphernalia. Bond was $25,000.

  • Lady Red Devils advance to region finals

    Although Lady Devil Dayna Hunn blasted a first inning homerun, (her fifth in six

    games), putting the Williston Lady Devils in front 2-1, it was the big five-run bottom of the

    sixth inning that propelled the Lady Devils to an 8-2 win over the Trinity Catholic Lady

    Celtics Friday night April 30 to win the Region Semi-finals.

    The win sends the Lady Devils to the Regional Final game on Tuesday, May 4.

    Lady Devil pitcher Tori Stamper was a big part of the defense as she struck out 15 Lady

    Celtics on the way to the Semi-final win.
