  • New book arrives in town

    On Friday, March 16, 793 copies of Levy County: Voices From the Past arrived in Levy County. Because the shippers required a dock, the books were delivered to the dock of the Levy County School Board. They were immediately taken to an air-conditioned place for storage in Morriston.

  • Baseball team wins pair

    Danny Etheridge pitched a two-hitter and Trip Fugate hit a three-run homer as the Williston baseball team defeated Fort White, 10-0, in five innings Saturday night, their second district win in three days.

    On Thursday, the Devils had edged P.K. Yonge, 6-5, as Fugate gave a strong relief pitching performance and also hit a home run.

    The Devils have two district games this week, playing at Dixie County on Tuesday and entertaining Chiefland on Thursday.

  • Charity golf event to be on April 12

    On April 12, the International Association of Firefighters Local 4069 will host a charity golf tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association at Williston Highlands Golf and Country Club.

    Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and tee off is by 8:30. Continental breakfast and barbecued lunch will be provided.

    There will be prizes for first, second and last place which include cash and other items. Many prizes will be raffled off. There will also be hole prizes including longest drive, longest putt, closest to pin and hole-in-one.

  • Miserable weather, good softball game

    When you're playing a competitive sport, sometimes a second chance can be all your team needs.

    Freshman catcher Dayna Hunn laced a line drive triple over the right-fielder's head to drive in one run, then scored on a wild pitch as the Williston girls defeated Inverness Citrus, 2-1, last Thursday night.

    Playing in the cold, wind and steady rain, the girls shook off the weather and put on an entertaining contest for the fans who braved the elements.

    The heroics came in the fourth inning and struck as quickly as the lightning that had blasted the area earlier in the day.

  • Fishing tourney postponed

    The first Haven Hospice Redfish and Trout Tournament in Yankeetown, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, was postponed due to inclement weather. The tournament will now be held Saturday, March 22 at 7 a.m. If weather appears to be an issue, please call 352-246-7483 for updated information.

    Six thousand dollars in cash prizes is up for grabs for first, second and third place winners. (Prize pool based on 100 boats registered.) There will also be door prizes and raffles.
