  • McGriff-Oelrich want your vote

    OCALA – Candidates for Florida Senate District 14, which covers northern Marion County and the Williston area, appeared at a countywide political forum in Ocala on Thursday, Sept. 23.
    The incumbent is Steve Oelrich, who told the crowd at the Marion County Library’s main branch about his 15 years in law enforcement, and how he had become the first Republican sheriff in Alachua County since Reconstruction. He left during his fourth term to run for the state Senate.

    • Mary Joyce Rogers, 46, NE 184th Terrace, arrested Sept. 15, Violation of Probation (VOP) battery on person 65 or older.

    • Clifton E. Hill, 39, NE 40th Street, arrested Sept. 16, theft (shoplifting).

    • Jeffrey Alexsander Simon, 31, NE 210 Street, arrested Sept. 17, failure to pay child support.

  • Tourism has good year

       When the Deepwater Horizon started spilling oil into the Gulf of Mexico you could almost feel the fear among folks in Cedar Key whose livings depend on tourism and seafood.
       While no oil has reached Levy County and seafood purveyors are battling to win back public confidence in the area’s pristine products– most of which are shipped out of the area– tourism that is measured by heads in beds is doing fine.

    • Kelly Michelle Colson, 26, Trenton, arrested Sept. 21, housing for Gilchrist County. 

    • Jerry Austin Cox, 55, Cross City, arrested Sept. 20, Violation of Probation (VOP)–possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. No bond.

  • Williston’s Haylee Baker takes first in Sears national contest

    Haylee Baker is going places.
       In December the fifth grader will take an all-expense paid to San Francisco and sometime within the next year will get a passport for her five-day all expense paid  trip to Milan, Italy.
       Both trips come courtesy of national retailer Sears and are awarded because Haylee, 10, has claimed the company’s title as America’s Top Style Crush and will serve as a fashion consultant for the company.

  • Thousands will flock to Williston

       Get ready for some mouth-watering treats this Saturday as Williston will welcome folks to Heritage Park for the 22nd Annual Central Florida Peanut Festival.
    Over 115 vendors will be on hand, as well as the elephants and petting zoo.
       Raychel Ortiz will sing the Star Spangled Banner and the Marines will raise the colors will the festival kicks off at 9 a.m.
       Entertainment follows throughout the day beginning with Amberay Molder at 9:30 a.m.
