  • You are not alone

    It’s a sad fact: many people have hurting hearts.

    Sometimes that pain comes from addiction: drugs, alcohol, sex, food. Sometimes it’s caused by loss: death, divorce, poor communications.

    Another sad fact is many people who are suffering from broken hearts think they are the only ones and that they have no where to turn to find healing and restoration.

    And that’s where they are wrong.

    Kelly Stevens and Jacquie Goss Potter know there is help for the broken hearted and they want to help.

    The streets of Williston are safer this week thanks to the dogged pursuit of Police Chief Dennis Strow and his officers in an investigation that culminated Friday with the capture of a three-year fugitive.

  • Darby Battle is 2014 valedictorian

    When Darby Battle makes her valedictory address Tuesday night, it just won’t be her parents who are bursting with pride.

    Her grandmother–“Nana”–may be the one applauding the loudest.

    That’s because for a time, while everyone was waiting to see the 2014 class standings, Nana, a/k/a Cindy Battle, had a big dream for her granddaughter: she wanted her to follow in her father’s footsteps since he was also a valedictorian of Williston High School.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Oct. 13, Tonya Michelle Andrews, 40, St. Cloud, petit theft, retail theft.

    • Oct. 23, Tamara Askew Brown, 52, Old Town, petit theft, VOP, dealing in stolen property.

    • Oct. 13, Paula Alejandra Clairmont, 35, Chiefland, battery. ROR.

    • Oct. 19, Michael Defilippo, 38, Williston, domestic battery.

    • Oct. 15, Karen Edwards, 42, Chiefland, DWLSR, possession of marijuana, possession of drug equipment. Bond $12,000.

  • Indians keep Levy Cup as Red Devils go down 34-24

    The Red Devils hit the road last Thursday to take on Chiefland as the two teams played for the coveted Levy Cup. Despite a strong effort by the team’s offense, Williston fell short by a score of 34-24 as Chiefland racked up five touchdowns.

  • Miss Sandlin, Mr. Masseo plan Christmas Eve vows

      Mr. and Ms. Damon Sandlin of Williston announce the engagement of their daughter, Victoria Hope, to Andrew J. Masseo, son of Marisol Masseo of Williston and the late Mr. Andrew S. Masseo.

    Ms. Sandlin graduated from Williston High School and will graduate from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Florida in December.

    Mr. Masseo graduated from Williston High School and is currently stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga. serving in the United States Army.

    The Christmas Eve wedding will be held in Williston.

  • Non-compliant property owners fined

    Finding that conditions were unsafe, and a serious threat to public health, the Williston Board of Adjustment and Code Enforcement (BOA), fined two property owners heavily and recommended that city administration bring the property into compliance with the owner assessed the cost of the work.

    Property owned by Toby and Lisa Donnel at 412 SE Dr., Williston was found to be in non-compliance in July, and as of Oct. 20, the couple had not responded to the city.

    • Oct. 11, Kimberly Delores Downing, 25, Cross City, VOP.

    • Oct. 7, John Hennessey, 23, Newberry, producing marijuana, arson, aggravated battery, two counts selling marijuana within 1,000 feet of a place of worship.

    • Oct. 11, Eric Len Henry, 24, Williston, out of county warrant.

    • Oct. 10, Matthew Carl Huston, 26, Chiefland, DWLS.

  • Red Devils take their lumps in homecoming game

    The Red Devils were back in action last week as they squared off against Lakeland Christian inside Booster Stadium. The energy in the stands was buzzing with excitement for this year’s homecoming game as prior and current generations got together to support Williston football.

    The game didn’t go as planned on the field as Williston lost 38-7, but the homecoming spirit shone through on what was a special night for the students involved.
