    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Nov. 20, Christopher Daniel Akins, 28, Old Town, VOP.

    • Nov. 20, Richard Waybe Antich, 37, Belleview, out of county warrant. Bond $32,000.

    • Nov. 21, Robert Eugene Beck, 27, Williston, VOP.

    • Nov. 20, Isaac Joel Buchanan, 36, Chiefland, touch or strike, grand theft of a controlled substance, home invasion, tampering, VOP. Bond $375,000.

    • Nov. 24, Anthony Scott Buzbee, 24, Perry, out of county warrant.

  • McCurdys welcome daughter

    Kaley and David McCurdy announce the birth of their daughter, Lydia Jo, born at 10:20 p.m. Nov. 8.

    The baby weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and was 22 inches long.

    Grandparents are Debbie Andrews, Kelby Andrews, Kathy Gilliam and Brent Zullo.

    Lydia Jo was welcomed home by older brother, Kaden.

  • The Williston Challenge

    Two weeks ago Williston Pioneer Editor Carolyn Ten Broeck challenged all Willistonians – and residents of the surrounding area – to donate $5 each to complete the Heritage Park Veterans' Memorial. Ten Broeck reasoned if 5,000 people donated $5 then the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) would have enough funds to finish the memorial, which will cost in excess of $80,000 when complete.

    Since the challenge Nov. 16, almost $1,000 has come in from those accepting the challenge.

  • Asbell is new school board chairman

    Cameron Asbell was unanimously voted the new chairman of the School Board of Levy County Nov. 28.

    Rick Turner offered the nomination of Asbell.

    “Mr. Superintendent (Jeff Edison),” Turner said, “it is with honor and a great privilege I offer to you in the form of a nomination the most honorable and admirable Cameron Asbell to serve as chair of the Levy County School Board.”

  • Dispute ends with two shot

    Two men are in critical condition following a shooting last Friday night at Melvin and Alice's BBQ on NE 205th Avenue.

    According to the Levy County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the scene around 11:15 p.m. Nov. 24. Upon arrival they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

  • Levy claims lowest unemployment in area

    The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region remained unchanged in October at 4.2 percent, but was 1.8 percentage points lower than the region’s rate of 6.0 percent a year ago.

    According to today’s release of the pre- liminary jobs report by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the region’s labor force shrank over the month by 3,650 to 198,857, and was vir- tually unchanged compared to October 2016.

    Gayle Mattson wants Chiefland and the sur- rounding communities to know that Haven Hospice is here to serve them for the long run.

    That was the clear message the president of Haven Hospice delivered in her talk to the Suwannee Valley Rotary Club Nov. 16, on the heels of the closure of the Tri-Counties Hospice Care Center.

    Calling High School Juniors

    Santa Fe College will host a pair of recruiting events geared toward high school juniors in November. The events will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. on the Northwest Campus of Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville.

    Juniors will get to explore a variety of potential degree programs as well as meet with current college students and organizations. This incredibly helpful event will inspire juniors to discover a potential college option, while giving insight into important college preparation steps.

  • New RV park gets nod of approval

    At its Nov. 7 meeting, the Levy County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a recommendation from the Planning Commission to submit a petition to the state that would amend the County’s Comprehensive Plan in order to allow a proposed RV Park to open in Williston.
