The small town of Inglis is picking itself up and applying bandages — physical and mental — where needed last week after a man, unhappy over the end of his 32-year marriage, on Thursday killed his ex-wife, himself and a man who tried to intervene out of concern that children playing across the street were in harm's way. He also shot a fourth man who died Friday at a Gainesville hospital.
The Country Music Fest & Mud Bog Races being held at Bronson Speedway on Oct. 16 and 17 got the green flag from the Levy County Commissioners after businessman Robert J. Nichols satisfactorily answered questions about overnight camping, alcohol sales and security.
Williston City Councilman Jason Cason announced Tuesday night that he will not be seeking re-election in 2016.
The former council president said his job at Drummond Bank had now taken a permanent move to Chiefland and he and his family will be placing their Williston home on the market and moving outside the city limits.
Cason said it is his intent to fill his seat through the end of the term in April.
"I'm not going to be one of those – what do you call it?– lame ducks," he said. "I'm going to work."
The man who opened fire in the middle of a crowd at the 2013 Crab Fest, killing one person and wounding four others will serve a minimum 20 years in a plea deal sealed in Levy County Circuit Court on Friday.
