Residents and visitors and people simply passing through Williston this Christmas season will be delighted with sparkling new lights and decorations along Noble Avenue, from the top of the hill to the east city limits.

Thanks to a generous Community Redevelopment Association allocation of funds up to $24,000, the city will be able to replace some of its older, homemade decorations, which have gotten increasingly weather-beaten and shabby over the years. With new light poles in the East Williston area, decorations will extend along the entire Noble Avenue corridor through town.

Williston police officers have recovered a World War II-era Japanese machine gun as a result of a traffic stop which led to the arrest of two women on drug charges.

Abby Ross of the unit block of Regina Boulevard, Beverly Hills, and Traci Bower of the 11000 block of North Williams Street, Dunnellon, were charged initially with drug paraphernalia and illegal drug possession.

For the Williston City Council, it was an evening for celebration and for decisions. The celebrations honored outstanding students in the Williston schools as well as six members of the Williston High School class of 2008 who have joined the U.S. Navy. Two major business items - electronic surveillance of red-light running and efforts to establish a new city hall at the north end of the Linear Park - were resolved after months of consideration and discussion. The council room was full to overflowing with relatives and friends of the honorees.

Unfortunately, every week we read of student drivers in United States that are involved in automobile crashes resulting in traffic fatalities. The Levy County Sheriff's Office has received a $10,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to fund the Levy County Teen Driver Improvement Program.

The Levy County Sheriff's Office, Community Relations Division, is offering a no cost, Teen Driver Improvement Program to all Levy County students who have a current Operators License or Learners Permit or who are about to get their learners permit.
