  • Tax trailer needs to go

    The trailer that serves as the satellite office for the Levy County Tax Collector is impeding progress in the revitalization of Williston, according to Kenneth Schwiebert, the city’s CRA chairman.
    Schwiebert urged the Williston Council members Tuesday to make a decision about the office,  located at 55 South Main St.
    “This has languished for a year,”  Schwiebert said. “We just feel it’s dragged on enough.”

  • Council tweaks utility policy draft

    The people spoke. The council listened. And now change in how the city charges for utility reconnection fees is imminent.
    Council members spent almost an hour Tuesday night tweaking changes in the utility policy that will soon be presented as an ordinance by interim city attorney Jennifer Ellison.
    Debra Jones, vice president of the council, conducted the meeting in the absence of President Marc Nussel, and covered the draft section by section.

  • Voters will decide two council seats

    After several weeks of sometimes heated campaigning, the curtain will close Tuesday, March 1 on this year’s Williston City Election.
    City voters will head to the polls at 7 a.m. Tuesday and mark ballots in two council races.
    In group A, incumbent Benny Steve Holcomb, who has served 12 years on the city council, takes on political newcomer and former city attorney Norm Fugate.
    Debra French Jones, the incumbent for Group C, will square off against former councilman Jerry Robinson.
