A burglary is committed every 10 seconds in the United States. Some of these burglaries even occur in gated communities where often time residents have become complacent about safety issues.

A false sense of security dictates that this will never happen to me, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Most burglars take the path of least resistance and look for an open window or unlocked door.

Most burglars usually have a good working knowledge of different types of doors and windows, how they work and their weak points.

The Williston Police Department has announced the following arrests:

*Ledrick L. Ferguson, 33, of Southeast Fourth Drive, Williston, was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after he allegedly threw a plastic glass and struck the victim in the arm.

*Jose Flores-Martinez, 23, of North U.S. Highway 27, Ocala, was charged with disorderly intoxication after he allegedly caused a disturbance at a local convenience store.

A 39-year-old Williston man was arrested for felonious child abuse on Dec. 22.

The victim and witness said Terence Bartges had been drinking most of the night before the deputy arrived at about 11:25 p.m., according to records.

Levy County Sheriff's Office deputies ended a 31-minute pursuit that started in Marion County on Dec. 21 just before 10 p.m., LCSO Lt. Evan Sullivan said.

Larry Ray Griffis, 39 was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff's Office for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and driving while license suspended or revoked, Sullivan said.
