  • Williston Police

    Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Bryce J. Delury, 27, of Williston was charged May 27 with forgery and uttering a forged instrument when he allegedly took 11 checks from an elderly relative’s checkbook and forged her signature so someone else could cash them. The checks totaled $1,400.

    • Wilson B. James, 55, of Williston was arrested May 27 on a Violation of Probation (VOP) warrant.

    • Ray Destin Reza, 32, of Bronson was charged May 27 with Driving While License Suspended/Revoked (DWLSR) times nine.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Rupert Rowe Jr., 59, of Williston was charged with sexual offender requirement to change driver’s license and address. He was released on his own recognizance.

    • Danny O. Wells, 53, of Archer was charged with two counts aggravated assault. Bond was $10,000.

    • Paul Odom, 28, of Williston was charged with domestic battery and tampering with a victim. Bond was $5,000.

  • Inglis police officer assaulted by bank robbery suspect

    An Alabama man wanted in connection with a bank robbery was apprehended in Yankeetown last week, but not before he injured an Inglis police officer.

    Tim Swiggett was treated for minor injuries after he was allegedly cut by Chad Floyd Jeter, 29, of Atmore, Ala.

    According to the sheriff’s report, Swiggett was conducting an investigation on an older model Blue GMC pickup with no tag that was backed into the woods on CR 40W.

  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    •Devin D. Loftton, 24, of Ocala was arrested May 22 and charged with possession of marijuana, less than 20 grams.

    The arrest came following a traffic stop for an unlawful turn.

    According to the police report, the alleged marijuana weighed 7.4 grams and was valued at $30.

    • Elray Brennon Battles, Jr., 27, of Williston was charged May 24 with driving while license suspended or revoked with knowledge.

  • Sobriety checkpoint set for Williston Friday

    The Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting a Comprehensive Roadside Sobriety Checkpoint (CRSC) within the Cross City Sub-District District, on Friday, May 29 starting at 9 p.m. This multi-agency checkpoint will be conducted in Levy County on US 27 at NW 1st Street, in the city of Williston.

    This is a continuing enforcement program to identify persons who are operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment, without a valid driver's license, without a proper vehicle registration, proper insurance or while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

  • Court sentences handed down

    The following findings and sentences were handed down in the 8th Judicial Circuit Court for Levy County. Nolle pros means the case was not prosecuted.

    Beckham, Nancy, burglary, nolle pros; and larceny/petit, 1 year probation.

    Brown, Harold Eugene Jr., possession of cocaine, 364 days with credit for 157 days served and 1 year probation, and sales of cocaine, nolle pros. Must pay $217.50 cost of investigation, jail fund and civil judgment.

  • Williston Police Reports

    Courtney Harvey learned last week that he couldn’t outrun the K-9 deputy.

    Harvey, 20, of Willison was arrested for two Levy County warrants at 341 S.E. 10 St., Williston and was transported to the Levy County Jail.

  • Sheriff's Reports

    A Williston man who was a tenant in another man’s home entered a drug rehabilitation center before facing his arrest charges.

    According to the arrest report, James Daniel White, 23, was renting a room in a residence between Dec. 20, 2008 and Jan. 17, 2009. While the homeowner was away on business, White allegedly sawed through a bedroom door to get to a locked safe. His efforts were unsuccessful, the report said, and the safe’s contents remained intact.

  • Single car accident kills one Monday

    A Dunnellon man was killed Monday afternoon on U.S. 41, eight miles south of Williston.

    Winfred Theodore Hancock, 68, was traveling south when he drifted off the west shoulder of the road into a ditch and then began rotating counterclockwise. He then struck a concrete culvert and became airborne across S.E. 77th Place before overturning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

    Hancock was ejected during the rollover and the 2002 Nissan pickup he was driving came to rest on its roof.

  • Suspects arraigned from Raleigh robbery

    Two of the four suspects in the robbery of Raleigh General Store have been arraigned and their bond set, before being returned to prison.

    Orvil E. Stone, 37, of Apalachee Correctional Center, was arraigned on three counts robbery of a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond is $850,000.

    He was sentenced in February to 10 years for robbery while using a deadly weapon in Marion County. His estimated release date is 2018. He is also has charges pending in Alachua County.
