  • Chiefland man charged with aggravated battery after bar fight

    Leroy Dexter is the kind of brother who will stand up for his younger sibling in a fight.

    Unfortunately, Dexter stood up for his brother in an argument that turned violent at Psychoz bar at 909 South Main St., Chiefland and he is charged with stabbing a man, according to Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas.

    Dexter is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and his bail is $50,000.

  • Second prostitution arrest made

    When an undercover agent with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force

    saw a woman on foot flagging down motorists in Bronson, he knew something was amiss.

    Agent Rob Bowers parked his undercover vehicle at the Lil Champ convenience store at the corner of Alt 27 and State Road 24 and was immediate approached by the woman, later identified as Holly Maravolo.

  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Jonathan Wilson, 29, of NE 127th Court, was arrested Aug. 13 and charged with possession of cannabis, less than 20 grams and possession of cocaine.

    • David W. Lewis, 28, of Archer was charged Aug. 10 with possession of cannabis.

    • Kendra Renee James, 22, of NE 84th Street was arrested Aug. 7 for Failure to Appear.

    • Timothy White, 36, of SE 21st Place was charged with fraud, insufficient funds on Aug. 11.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    Perez-Rivera, Abimael, 37, of Tampa, charged on a writ of bodily attachment. Bail is $525 cash purge.

    Young, Jamie Robert, 27, of Chiefland, charged with two counts of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and two counts of sale of marijuana. Bail is $30,000.

    Mercer, Luevetl A., 21, of Chiefland charged with three counts of sale of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of crack cocaine. Bail is $75,000.

  • Sheriff's Report

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Shane Michael Akes, 29, of Trenton was charged July 30 with animal cruelty after a horse was found on his property. According to the sheriff’s report, the horse had most likely laid in the same spot for several days and had no food, grass of hay. Its bones were visible through its skin, the report said. The horse was euthanized by a Newberry veterinarian. Akes’ bond was $5,000.

  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Anthony Bernard Daily, 30, of Webster, was charged Aug. 6 with driving while license suspended/revoked, times three, with knowledge.

    • Johnny Lee Coleman, 20, of Gainesville was arrested on a warrant from Alachua County on Aug. 1 for a sex offense with a victim between 12-15 years old.

    • Andrew McBride, 56, of Morriston was charged with retail theft (shoplifting) on Aug. 5 after he allegedly took a beer from a store without paying for it.

  • Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Edwin Deleon Henry, 27, of Cross City was arrested July 30 and charged with two counts sale of a controlled substance, crack cocaine. Bond was $30,000.

    • Rodney Kirk Williams, 40, of Trenton was charged July 31 with sale of a controlled substance. Bond was $15,000.

    • Shavon Juanita Medley, 26, of Old Town was arrested on a Dixie County warrant for sale of a controlled substance. Bond was $15,000.

  • Williston Police Reports

    Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    Franklin Lewis Blankenship, 22, of NW 1st Avenue, was charged July 26 on an Osceola County warrant for aggravated battery.

    Louis Alberto Gaspar, 28, of SE 5th Terrace, was arrested July 27 for no driver’s license.

    Michael William Vazquez, 26, of NE 127th Court, was arrested July 24 for possession, less than 20 grams.

    Tina Louise Butler, 21, of NE 212 Terrace, was charged with forgery, petit theft on July 25.

  • Firearms discovered during Bronson drug bust

    A Bronson man was arrested July 31 and charged with two counts of the sale of a controlled substance and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

    James John Taylor, 37, of NE 75th Street was arrested after drug agents with the Levy County Drug Task Force received information that he was selling Oxycontin from his residence.

    The informant purchased the drug between Oct. 2, 2008 and Nov. 19, 2008.

  • Seat belt law just got tougher; fine for non-use is $98

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office is going to be checking for seat belt use under the new state law that went into effect on Tuesday.

    Drivers need to be aware that the new law allows officers to stop and ticket a driver for not wearing a seat belt even when there is no other traffic violation.

    Under the old law, the ticket could only be issued if the driver was stopped for another traffic infraction and was not wearing a seat belt at the same time.
