  • Trio arrested after Winn Dixie incident

    Investigator Mark Morgan and Officer Gallup with the Williston Police Department arrested Michelle McNeal for burglary, uttering a forgery, uttering a forged instrument, dealing in stolen property, petit theft and habitual offender for driving with her license suspended. Augustino Jazikoff was arrested for burglary, petit theft and retail theft along with Andrew Phillips for burglary, criminal mischief and petit theft.

  • Man brandishes knife in Yankeetown Park

    A man accused of chasing people with a knife at the County Park on CR 40 has been arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest with violence, felony battery and one count of corruption by threat to a public official.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • James F. Roberts, 64, of Trenton was arrested July 19 for domestic battery, Bond was $3,500.

    • Mari Miller, 25, of Bronson was arrested July 23 and charged with petit theft when she allegedly took a wallet. Bond was $2,500.

    • Gwendolyn Dawn Stalnaker, 36, of Bronson was arrested July 18 and charged with neglect of a child. Bond was $35,000.

  • Man accused of sexual battery

    A Williston man has been arrested and charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious sexual battery on a child.

    Investigator Mike Bell arrested Brent Elskan on July 24 after the victim reported to the Levy County Sheriff's Office that Elskan sexually assaulted her in 2004 and 2005 in the Williston area. Elskan was 28 years of age when he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim who was 14 years old.

    Elskan was interviewed on July 24 and he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim on numerous occasions.

  • Williston Police Department

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Roberto A. Olivares, 31, of Gainesville was charged with not having a valid driver’s license on July 17.

    • Drew Michael Myhree of NE 10th Blvd., Williston, was charged July 21 on an Alachua County warrant for negligent manslaughter, Vehicular DUI cause of death to human or unborn child.

    • Lawrence Robert Ludeman, 59, of NW 1st Street, Williston was arrested July 21 and charged with driving while license suspended or revoked.

  • You don’t want your picture taken

    After months of discussion, planning, construction, installation and fine tuning, the red light enforcement camera are in place, according to Lt. Clay Connolly of the Williston Police Department.

    Last week the cameras were calibrated for timing, located and speed and on May 15 they went online. Warning letters will be mailed to violators for the first 30 days but will discontinue on June 15.

    “I have fielded several questions regarding these cameras,” Connolly said, “and most of them have to do with the point at which a violation is captured.

  • Body recovered from the Suwannee

    Deputies have recovered the body of a man from the Suwannee River who went missing while vacationing on the Suwannee River with his family.

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office had been searching for him since Tuesday evening when the man’s fiancée reported returning to their rented houseboat from a swim in the springs at Fanning Springs State Park.

    She told deputies the man had been chilled by the spring’s 72-degree water and had returned alone to the boat.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Office

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Cassandra Lynn Campbell, 24, of Old Town was charged July 16 with Violation of Probation (VOP) petit theft. No bond.

    • Andrew G. Phillips, 30, of Bronson was arrested July 11 and charged with burglary of a residence.

  • Reward offered in gun theft

    A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who stole seven rifles, two shotguns and a gun safe valued at $10,300 from a residence at 1350 NW 132 Lane, Chiefland on July 1.

    Witnesses saw a white Ford Explorer in the victim’s driveway during the timeframe. On July 9, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office seized the Explorer after its driver, Donald Bernier, was arrested for shoplifting.

  • Williston Police Department

    Javier F. DeJesus, 23, of Morriston was arrested July 12 on an active warrant after police officers performed a traffic stop and discovered his window tint was too dark.

    Robert Lee Mozell, 45, of NE 41st Street, Williston was arrested July 9 and charged with theft when he allegedly used a company gas card to fuel four vehicles that did not belong to the company. Eight different transactions were caught on surveillance tape at the locations and the cost came to over $3,300.
