  • Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Edwin Deleon Henry, 27, of Cross City was arrested July 30 and charged with two counts sale of a controlled substance, crack cocaine. Bond was $30,000.

    • Rodney Kirk Williams, 40, of Trenton was charged July 31 with sale of a controlled substance. Bond was $15,000.

    • Shavon Juanita Medley, 26, of Old Town was arrested on a Dixie County warrant for sale of a controlled substance. Bond was $15,000.

  • Williston Police Reports

    Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    Franklin Lewis Blankenship, 22, of NW 1st Avenue, was charged July 26 on an Osceola County warrant for aggravated battery.

    Louis Alberto Gaspar, 28, of SE 5th Terrace, was arrested July 27 for no driver’s license.

    Michael William Vazquez, 26, of NE 127th Court, was arrested July 24 for possession, less than 20 grams.

    Tina Louise Butler, 21, of NE 212 Terrace, was charged with forgery, petit theft on July 25.

  • Firearms discovered during Bronson drug bust

    A Bronson man was arrested July 31 and charged with two counts of the sale of a controlled substance and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

    James John Taylor, 37, of NE 75th Street was arrested after drug agents with the Levy County Drug Task Force received information that he was selling Oxycontin from his residence.

    The informant purchased the drug between Oct. 2, 2008 and Nov. 19, 2008.

  • Seat belt law just got tougher; fine for non-use is $98

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office is going to be checking for seat belt use under the new state law that went into effect on Tuesday.

    Drivers need to be aware that the new law allows officers to stop and ticket a driver for not wearing a seat belt even when there is no other traffic violation.

    Under the old law, the ticket could only be issued if the driver was stopped for another traffic infraction and was not wearing a seat belt at the same time.

  • Trio arrested after Winn Dixie incident

    Investigator Mark Morgan and Officer Gallup with the Williston Police Department arrested Michelle McNeal for burglary, uttering a forgery, uttering a forged instrument, dealing in stolen property, petit theft and habitual offender for driving with her license suspended. Augustino Jazikoff was arrested for burglary, petit theft and retail theft along with Andrew Phillips for burglary, criminal mischief and petit theft.

  • Man brandishes knife in Yankeetown Park

    A man accused of chasing people with a knife at the County Park on CR 40 has been arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest with violence, felony battery and one count of corruption by threat to a public official.

  • Levy County Sheriff's Reports

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • James F. Roberts, 64, of Trenton was arrested July 19 for domestic battery, Bond was $3,500.

    • Mari Miller, 25, of Bronson was arrested July 23 and charged with petit theft when she allegedly took a wallet. Bond was $2,500.

    • Gwendolyn Dawn Stalnaker, 36, of Bronson was arrested July 18 and charged with neglect of a child. Bond was $35,000.

  • Man accused of sexual battery

    A Williston man has been arrested and charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious sexual battery on a child.

    Investigator Mike Bell arrested Brent Elskan on July 24 after the victim reported to the Levy County Sheriff's Office that Elskan sexually assaulted her in 2004 and 2005 in the Williston area. Elskan was 28 years of age when he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim who was 14 years old.

    Elskan was interviewed on July 24 and he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim on numerous occasions.

  • Williston Police Department

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Roberto A. Olivares, 31, of Gainesville was charged with not having a valid driver’s license on July 17.

    • Drew Michael Myhree of NE 10th Blvd., Williston, was charged July 21 on an Alachua County warrant for negligent manslaughter, Vehicular DUI cause of death to human or unborn child.

    • Lawrence Robert Ludeman, 59, of NW 1st Street, Williston was arrested July 21 and charged with driving while license suspended or revoked.

  • You don’t want your picture taken

    After months of discussion, planning, construction, installation and fine tuning, the red light enforcement camera are in place, according to Lt. Clay Connolly of the Williston Police Department.

    Last week the cameras were calibrated for timing, located and speed and on May 15 they went online. Warning letters will be mailed to violators for the first 30 days but will discontinue on June 15.

    “I have fielded several questions regarding these cameras,” Connolly said, “and most of them have to do with the point at which a violation is captured.
